1. The plant of the Ceske Valcovny Kovu (Czechoslovakia Rolling Mill
formerly the F A Lange & Co) was located near the Elbe River, a
short distance from the CKD (Cesko-Moravska Kolben Danek) plant
in Podmokly /5046N-1412E/. The plant made sheet metal and wire
(as f i na as *1 /l fmm) for the Tesla electronics combine and other
electrical appliance firms. The largest volume of wire manu-
factured at the plant was made of copper and used for cables,
telephone, and radio wiring, although the plant also made wire
of aluminum, steel and brass. Copper sheeting, about mm
a
thick, was also fabricated. I do not (mow the production figures
but I do know that five loaded freight cars left the plant
each week; their destination was unknown to me.
2. From May to August. 1946 there were between 940-960 employees
working at the plant. The following is a numerical breakdown
of the employees according to the work they performed at the
plant:
Unskilled workers 810
Administrative personnel 80
Skilled workers 60
Technicians (Slovaks) 5
Mechanical engineers 2
I do not recall the name of the manager of the plant when I
worked there.
