REPORT NO.
1. Civilian airport in Gottwald-O?rokovice is located near the town of Otrokovice
to the southwest (the communities of Batcr and Otrckovice were merged and are
today called Gottwaldov IX). Along the south-west border of the airport there
is double-track railway of the Czechoslovak State Railroads Prerov - Breclav.
The geographic location of the airport is as follows: 17? 31' 15" east long-
itude and 490 12 00" north latitude. The area of the airport is approxi-
mately 180 meters above sea level; prevailing winds are from the north.
Visibility is very bad, and there is match fog end smoke from the factories.
The temperature is mild, but the rainfall is heavy.
2. The surface of the ail art ".s cole,?ed wi'.h grads. The runwrys point 18G - 360?
and are marked with white strips approximately 150 meters wide. Plane, take-off
toward the north. The surface of t:Ae airfield is very y."? --,id dry most of the
time, even, during heavy rains, as long as the Morava laver is not toe high. The
above runway is used only for the landing and take-off of large planes. Other
planes use the whole area of the airfield r nd land as well as take-off in all
directions,
3. The eoutrol tower is locete.: ,n the terminal building. The airfield is equipped
with devices for :light landing, but dues not have the "T" light. The approaches
are not marked with blue lights and blind landing equipment is not uses because
of the slope. The starting runway is mark4a1 with white battery 1tg_its. The
lights on thr. starting runways can be removed if necessary. The search light
is located on the air terminal building and revolves. Occasi'nally it is used
for night landing,, There iy also a turtling searchlight, visible up to 10 kilo-
meters, on the former Bata factory on Gottwald street.
4. Within the radius of five kilometers, access to the airport is hindered by hills
on the right side of the Morava Fiver, appro, daately 100 meters above the level
of the airport. The highest summit of these hills is 130 meters above the level
of the airport, dnd they are about one kilometer from the airport. Toward the
southwest, c]Ore to the a.--ea of the airfield there is a railway on an embankment
10 meters high. There is also a railway guard's house on the embankment which
is marked with red lights at night. These obstacles make landings and take-offs
'in the 'iirfteid rather difficult. There are practically no other obstacles
within a radius of 20 kilometers and the region is fairly flat.
