Military doctors are uauel.ly members of the Comaunist Party. They do, therefore,
receive betty, pay, free food and quarters and other privileges that non-military
doctors do not receive. Civ111an doctors receive 300 rubles per month for the
first five years alter they graduate. This is raised to 350 rubles after Elva
years of service and 400 rubzea after ten years. It is difficult for a civilian
doctor with a family to live nn the pay attd in order. to make more sane~Y doctors
will ~~rork at Lwo places. For example, one mould xork from 8:00 All to 4x00 P)1 at
a hospital and taen cork at s diapensasy from 4:00 PM to 11:00 PAI. As a rule
civilian doctors are not allowed to have a private practicx. Thers are euxptions
t~ this, as in the case of Porty meabere aad well-:cm^vn elderly medical pratessors.
In general the Trorking rnnditions of the Russian dentist are similar tot>bose of
mirdical doctors. Hoverer, dentists receive less pay. 4~ea too tour are >~t
required to spend u much tine learning their profession, the dsatistry course
being four years u cos~ared to five for the mediosl coarse. Doctors are treated
with a little more profelssional respect Char. are Gantlets.
ALl college and university students receive the same political education. The
medical profewsion receives na special indoctrination.
