algebra, geometry and trigonometry, engineering dra??ine. rrd courses iu
railroading principles. Political lectures were a required l'aT'y of tLa
curriculum, and occupied about 3096 of class room time. Periodic vrittou Nacsmina-
tions were given in academic sub,iecta, but not oa political lect:a^ee.
Preferential treatment for komsonrol or Co:maunist Party members wgs rot evident.
Tutoring privilege was availeole, particularly for older students who had
decided belatedly to continue their education after working for several ,years.
It is possible that Cammunist Party members received special tutoring iP it
became necessary.
4. Tuition van free, though textbooks, pencils, etc, were not supplied but had
to be purchased personally. Students not living with their families were given
e stipend of $0 rubles (1938 value) per month the first year, 50 xubles the
second, and, 60 to 80_rublee both the thir3 end Yorrth'vear. Th~rtnq summer Yield
work, three rubles per day were.alloaed for ?ood and lodging. Upon graduation,
students snare obliged to work as raid w?rkers for ~.he Ministry of Transportation
