1. This report vrill discuss tho eonditiona influencing students' choices of
careers a::d, in particular, influencing tham to specialise in either
purply s~`..e~at.Pic fields or in praoticaL work.
2. First of all one must keep in mind that the indivldunl has no say as to
his frture in the USSR and if he should get to specialize in afield of
his ov:n choosir. it is simply because his wishes happen to oorreapcnd
~vith t:ie wishes of the govornmont. linen a man ie sent to study in afield
not of his ovm choosing, it does not mesa neneasarily, that he will become
an ine_f:.cient expert. The teaching atatt of ncN higher educational in-
stitution will always try to instill is the student a liking for a par-
ticular pz?ofossion and tY.us some students gill develop an interest in the
given profession. Tt:ose who do not develop this interest, cf courao, will
simply put in t}:eir time on the jo3 and never try to advaneo themselves or
their profession. Occasionally, these "unaueoesstul ones", manage, by some

students and a few of the besEproduotian workers are chosen evorv year to
