ITS TLANSIISSION ON TNI NSYSLATION The 1949 state plan envisions very important drillings, both for oil and for natural gas. In January 1949, in the Sancer Inclazei region the first rich layer of gas was found. This was at a depth of 135 meters, and at a pressure of 13 atmospheres. Drilling is constantly being conducted in the Sanpaul-Ogra region in the valley of the Mures.' Work was begun in the Tauni region (Tarnava-Mica), and only after a month was the first layer of gas found. This was at a depth of 195-240 meters, and at a pressure of 24 atmospheres. In June, in the Ilimbav-Agnita region a new layer was found at a depth of 350-407 meters, also at a pressure of 24 atmospheres. Drilling has also begun in the Noul- Saaeac region, where five borings have been made with a total depth of 5,701 meters. This depth was attained on 15 August 1949, which meant that the plan had been exceeded by 763 meters. A new gas well was found in Jladeni (Prahova). It has an output of 100,000 cubic meters a day, which is equal to 10 carloads of bitumen. As a result of tLe efforts of the government, the Party, and all the workers, the petroleum industry is equipped with raw materials and machin- ery such as cranes, rotary tables, metal towers, pumps, etc. Piecework wages have been introduced, resulting in both increased production and an increase in workers' wages. The Soviet Union is constantly aiding the Rumanian oil industry. The Muntenia Company alone has received from the USSR this year. 92 tractors, 42 trucks and cars, 10 drill cranes, 36 engines, as well ce rotary tables, hydraulic heade, pumps, 97 heavy supports, 180 dredges: 61 drill meters, dynamographs, etc. This made it possible for Muntenia in one year to in- crease its drilling by 57 percent, the average speed of drilling by 27 per- cent, the production of oils by 60 percent, and the output of naphtha by 8 percent. In addition, it made old fields more valuable and helped discover new ones.
