PErROLLUM IUSTALLATIONS IN ODESSA IN ST 1948
The petroleum port is located in the northern part of Odessa, in front
of the part of the city called Peresyp. The port has four landing places,
each 428 meters long and each 8.5 meters deep, at the embankment and docks.
The port is equipped with a railroad siding on the pier and a group of
tracks on the embankment. A petroleum- and kerosene-pumping station with a
capacity of 80 tons of fuel per hour is located in a reinforced-concrete
building or, the pier of the petroleum part. The station is equipped with
fire centrifugal pumps which operate on the city current but can use their
own diesel installation in case of emergency.
Two tank farms are located near the petroleum port, one containing
e.ght tanks with a total capacity of 11,500 tons, the other, three tanks
with a total capacity of 6,300 tons. All these tanks are old,, made of iron,
half underground, and protected by brick walls.
A tank farm for petroleum 'products, containing six round tanks with a
teal capacity of 14,250 tons, is located at the commercial railroad station
of Odessa-Peresyp. It is connected with the main petroleum pipeline by a
branch railroad line.
A small tank farm with a capacity of 6,000 tons is situated at the com-
mercial railroad station of Bakhmach and is also connected with the main
petroleum pipeline by a branch railroad line.
North of the commercial railroad station of Ba.?rbmach l,i s the largeat
tank farm in Odessa, consisting of 12 large, round, iron tanks with a total
capacity of 30,000 tons, situated half underground, and protected by a brick
wall and P,u earthen embankment. This tank farm has its ova pumping station.
It has both highway and railroad branch lines and is connected with the aiin
pipeline.

The large Krekite Petroleuwa Refinery, producing a light aviatiowgasouse
and located northwest of the city in the wastelands, is provided with the most
modern equipment. The plant has its own electric power station, but it caa
also make use of the main city network. According to not completely reliab*,
data, the refinery processes about 90,000-110,000 tons of crude petroleum per
year.
Bear the refinery are two large tank farms consisting of 12 m-rA and
four rectangular tanks, situated three quarters underground and protected by
reinforced concrete walls. The refinery is connected by pipeline with the
petroleum port and by railroad with the Odessa rai1_roeu3 center, Odessa if
the main supplier of petroleum and petroleum products to the entire southern
part of the Ukraine.
Baku petroleum goes by pipeline to Batumi; from which point it is carried
by tankers to the Odessa petroleum port. After the occupation of Rumania, a
considerable amount of the Rumanian petroleum was also directed to Odessa.
