The toxin which we tbtairied contained almost no amines which did not precipitate in anno- niumsulphate solution. In addition, At was freed from some albumins in the medium which had not precipitated?in the uuncentrated ammonium sul- phate solution. with dialyeip, several impurities of various salts and possibly many other substances were removed. After dialysis the toxicity of the solution decreased 2 - 3 times. Apparently, this was due to partial destruction and. dissipation of the toxin during dislysis. Accordingly, solution:r with high toxicity wore used in the experiments. gxperiments with the ears of 15 rabbit were carried out in the first series. Previously, the artery in the oars of the rabbits was separated and tied with.two ligatures. Than the ear way incised with e. sharp razor between the two ligatures. The vessels of the ear worn washed with a wane 8'inger Locke solution. iyhen.th4r, constant tone was established, w}?.ieh wwa~ dotermiised by the c;uurati2,y of liquid discharged in one miirnit% we introdsbsd first a weak and then a stronger conoen- tration of one toxin. The first toxic. di'utien was 1:50,000; the sec- ond was 1:25,000; and the third was 1:10,000. The ordinary solution of the toxin was i:;troduoed in one ear of 6 rabbits of this aortas. tanda aalutten o: attenuated toxin tnto the others. A toxin dilution of 100 times was attan::cbsc?bj !,r. a water bath after dialysis for 15 - 20 m nutes.. The vessels in the ears of all 15 rabbits reacted to the bdtulis-- motoxin and contracted (see table). The vessels had an average contraction of 23.Z percent with the first dilution, 36.3 percent with the second dilution, and 36.9, per- cent with the third. The vowels of the rabbi'. e& u a aotsd almost i- dentically to the second and third dilution or the toxin. Vessels of the ears of the 6 rabbits. through which the attsnc- ated toxin had beet introdueedahad an insignificant contraction. The average contraction with the Sint dilution was 6 percent, and with the second and third dilutions, 6 and 6.5 percent, Very definite results of the reaction of the vessels in the rab- b+_t ears to botulismatmzin were obtained in these axpvrinnnts: the higher the concentration of the toxin, the stronger the contraction of the vessels. Botulismotosin which had been attenuated by heating, then purified by preliminary sedimentation and subjected to dialysis, oauoed a very slight contraction of the vessels in th. rabbit ears, espoci.U;.. in'comparisom with natural toxin, STAT Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2011/06/29: CIA-RDP80-00809A000600200035-2 Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2011/06/29: CIA-RDP80-00809A000600200035-2 STAT Hev..ction, of Blood Ve:isela cr P.n-iwls and Husan:3 to 5otuliSaOE0Aif1 F:xp of ear Type of vessel erp r.v decrease of +w drops in paosage of of diluted toxin exp i Rabbit Kara 15 232 36.5 )6:9. 6 4 6 6,5 2 Guinea Pigs 10 23,1 25.2 't5.6 5 4.6 6.4 3'g 3 Hue. n Kidneys 10 22.1, 25.; :s2 ' 3 4.9 7.4 1617 The serondserios Of experiments was with 15 &Unea pigs (ace table), The guinea pigs were killel rith aJblow on the head.
