coal. In 1947, with a considerable decrease in population, domestic consump-
tion of coal reached 41.5 million tone, including coal for coke.
,Before the var, 34 million people used about 6.5millIon no for heat-

According to the last reports of thr Cantral Administration of the Coal
Industry,, total production of coal in 1948 yea 70,239,712 tons which exceeded
the plan by 2,759,642 tone or 104 percent of planned production. During the
same period, production of brovn coal was 5,017,900 tone, or 119.5 percent of
the 1948, plan. The total production of the coke plants wee 3,227,620 tons, or
107.6 percent of the plan. As's result, planned production of the entire coel
industry vas exceeded by 5.5 percent.
