Magnitogorsk Metallurgical Combine fu1f11led the 1948 plan for prcxluotian
of pig iron, steel, and rolled steel, as well ae for oolong and ore mlatnga
on 16 December. Sn 1948, the Combine produced 204,000 tone of ore, 420,000
toets of coke, 190,000 tans of pig iron, 300,000 tone of steel, sad 190,000 tons
of rolled steel above the 1947 production volume. Magnitogorsk metallurgical.
corkers, during 1948 reached the 1850 production level for ore mining, coking,
steel smelting, sad steel rollin;;. `Phe Combtno saved 51 million rubles
above plan in 11 months of 1948. '

31 Deoember 1944. Aperation has greatly improved 1a the last 4 years.
The emeltiug period xae oonsiderably shortened daring 1848, nod the emeltitsg
weight iocreased 20 peroent. The average amount of etael obtained per
square motet of furnace agile was increased to 4.1 tone, as against 3.2 tone
planned. Rolling of steel ingots was speeded up 25 peroent. About 8 million
rubles of eavi[sQa above plan were eoaumulated. This was 2,800,000 rubloe more
than pledged.
By the end of 1948, the plant bad ezoeeded the planned lq`j0 production
level for steel and xolled steel. On 31 Deoember, oonetruotfon sad
aeeeoebly of tb.e third open-hearth furaaoe was oompleted at the plant. The
new furnace will be put into operation Boon.

have euooeeded in reducing the time of the,prooees one hour and 45 minutes.
The amount of steel produoad per square meter of open-hearth sole in-
creased 15 peroent over 1948.

The Aktyubinek Ferroalloy Pleat produced over 1,5~ tons of ferro-
alloys above plan in 1948. Consumption of eleotric power was lowered 9.5
percent, exa aginet 8 percent pledged. Labor efficiency inoreased 19 peroent.
Savings above plan, eooording to preliminary estimates, amounted to more
then 17 c'.llioa rubles.
