Further details rave been published regarding the proposed development of
shipping in Czechoslovakia within the period of the live Tear Plan. The carry-
ing capacity is expected to increase 70 percent over 1948. It is estimated
that by 1953, 2,070,000 tons of goods will be carried. This will be achieved
by increasing the size of the fleet and raking it more efficient by installing
modern loading equipment in the ports. gripping companies now in operation will
be nationalized and three companies will be organized to control shipping on the
Elbe, Oder, and Danwbe Rivers.

As per an agreement between Poland and Czechoslovakia, the Demoicke Q Quay
in Atettia has been turned over to Czechoslovakia as a railhead.. York an this
qay will begin in Iilaroh. After treatment of the surface of the quay, the basin
will be deepened, and an 80-aster-inng warehouse and administrative buildings will
be built.
CABii RAILROAD IN OPERATION -- Rode Provo, lo 47, 25 Feb 49
The first section of the cable railroad on 8ezlm (Sch.aekappe) Lou border
of Ozschoslovaki] was put into operation in January. The starting station of
Pee is about 10 minutes from the terminal bus station in Poo. The section has
16 supports. At the middle station, the line changes its direction 120 degress
in order to and ender the summit of 8mezka at an altitude of 1,600 asters.
The second section will be caspleted is July of this year.
The Poo and 8nezka stations are wooden buildings, and have restaurant
facilities. The entire cable railroad is 3,600 meters long, and ascends abort
700 asters. Its speed is 2.5 meters per second. The entire equipment will cost
about 15 million crowns. The railroad was built by the Transports Firm state

enterprise in Chrudia and its subsidiary factories. Brigades of the Czechoslovak
B: ate FAilroais and the Union of Czech Youth participated in the construction.
The auxiliary freight cable railroad on the Rnz va Hora-Snezksa line has also
started operation. It sakes a direct connection between the SUMMIt Of 80021M and
Pea.

The Czechoslovak State Hailroade are devoting special attention to the train-
ing of youth. Thin year 425 pupils are attending railroad courses in industrial
schooLa; 144 pupils are attending the State Transportation School in Yaltice na
1(crare, where future train dispatchers are trained. A class of students from
dI akla will arrive at this school in autumn. The Ministry of Transportation
will accept as additional 365 youths this year as apprentices in the trades of
machine locksmith, boilermaker, electrical technician, etc., as well as 100
transportation appr ides, who, if they qualify, may study in the transportation
school after one year of work.
In Cesks Trebova, where a youth training center for the technical groups of
the t 'sportation service is to be oireated, a basic technical enterprises school
will b6,operoed this year for 120 machine loeksnith AM electrical technician
ap tices.

Daring 1949 the Ministry of Transportation will accept 100 young people for
a year of training and subsequent onroU not in the State Transportation School
at Faltioe or at Usti mad Iabea. In addition, 365 apprentices will be accepted,
Irslodisg 160 machine lookeniths, 55 electrical technicians, five boilermakers,
13 asiths, 18 turners, firs nee aaice, 60 autcaeohanios, 41 electrical me baaios,
and eight toolmakers.
Applications meet be submitted to the Ministry of Transportation not later
than 31 Dlsroh.
