PRODUCTION TO BE ThCREASED IN 1949; JANUARY PLANS NOT MET 1949 PLAN FOR BULGARIAN INDUSTRY -- Izgrev, No 1359, 9 Her 49 The Council of MinietteB has announced that the 1949 plan for Bulgarian industry will call for a general increase in industrial and agricultural o- duction of 18 percent over 1948. Industrial production (other than loc?1F will be increased by 2: percent, and agricultural production (other than from forestry, hunting, and fishing) will be increased by 16 pernont. Heavy and light industrial production will be increased by 23 and 21 percent respec- tively. AAs 155 percent more new power facilities will be put into operation in 19!9, than were opened in 19b8, power production will be increased by 23 percent. As a result of a 16-percent increase in mine production (including coal and ore), supplies of black coal are expected to sa4'lsfy Bulgarian needs, and 22 percent more are will be mined than In 1948. The plan for tl'e chemical industry will be 34 percent greater than last year, metallurgy 64 percent greater, electrical industry 82 percent greater, metal products 51 percent greater, machinery 41 percent greater, building materials 25 percent greater, and food Industry 37 percent greater. The Gabrovo Union will need 700, workers for (Gbxowo, 1,000 for Verna, and 280 for the other factories of the Union. The building materials industry will need 1,776 workers. The "woodworking industry made 1,750 work! ers to fulfill its.l949 plan by the end of September.
