More than 500 writers, artiste, journalists, painters, composers, Party

in Novosibirsk. Poat Alekeandr Zharov gave the main report which dealt with
the recent article in Pravda on the group of artipatriotic theater critics.
Author A. Tioptelov gave many 4xwiplea of the influence of such critics
In Novosibirsk, mentioning Al'tman, Gurvich, Dreyden, and Dsyredzhiyev. The
latter began his attack on Siberian writers in an article Puflty of aeethetioism
"Siberian Literatur* in 1941" in which he criticized Gavriii Sungurov'e novel
Putesheetviye v ititay (Journey in China). Dayredzhiyev also wrote erroneous
articles for the almanac, eyyye dni, as a member of the editorial board of
the almanac. In 1948, there appeared an article by Zinoviy Shatrov (Shteymen)
in the pariodioc,l Sibireki;e i_ an S. Sertakov's narrative "Plot Idet na
sever" (The R-ft Goes Northth). The editors failed to sea through Shteyman'e
opinioms and permitted the article to be published. Again, the editors were
guilty of liberalism by permitting the publication of a speech by the poet
Antokol'akiy who defended formalist verses by Lev Kendrrev.
Lieutenant Colonel Vysotekiy pointed out the erroneous criticism recently
appearing in Sibirakiye ogni and in the newsparer Sovetskaya Sibir'. The latter
published an article in My 1945 by N. Larionov which gave a favorable review
of Tristan i Izol'de by A. Brushteyn which vas presented at the Youth Theater
by gins Meyerkhol'd.
V. Levashov, in his speech, declared that the formaliet:o critic
Vay.top not only spread his false conviction in Novosibirsk during the war
years but also headed the local department of the Union of Composers. The
Novosibirsk critic Neklyudov slso has tried to imitate the formalistic music
critics.

also criticized A. Surov's play Deleko of Stelingrada (Far From Sta.irgrad),
in a r.viev which used Yu. Yuzovskiy's critical formula.
The M-.::rkh Peadeny Theater of Drama should have held the center of
