Textile Industry, and Foe Industry.
The following ministries exceeded the 1948 gross production plan but did
not fulfill the plan for quantitative production of chief products: Conetruo

The following failed to aaaplete the 1948 gross production plan and the

1947 volume, including Talon capital construction, 119 percent, and Republic
oapital ocastrnction, 104 percent.

During 1948, construction of 247,000 square meters of State housing was
ccapleted. In addition to this, the population constructed with their own
savings and on State credit a total of 168,800 square meters of housing in
cities and settlements and also 48,600 houses in rural areas.
Agricultural work was better, organized in 1948 that in 1947. The amount
of seeded area increased. The plan for sowing winter crops for 19' ~arveet
was fulfilled 104 percent by kolkhozee and the plan for increasing yawing was
fulfilled 115 percent.
The plan for the repair of the machine-tractor park and agricultural machin-
ery was fulfilled. Kolkhoz fields received twice as much fertilizer as in 1947.
The 1948 plan for freight transport was fulfilled 94 percent oy the Ministry
of Automobile Transport, Belorussian SSB. Transport :a 1948 amounted to 117
,eroent of that of X947.
In 1948, the number of streetcars is cities of the Republic increased 50
percent over 1947. The extent of the streetcar lines increased 40 percent, and
120 percent more passengers were Uansported than In 1947. The year plan for

Trade turnover in State and cooperative trade increased from month to month
during 1948. The volume of retail trade turnover increased 18 percent in the
fourth quarter 1948 an compared with the first quarter, inclnIing 46 percent
in consumers, cooperatives.
During 1948 cooperative trade increased at a rap.a pace in the cities. Its
volume was 46 percent greater in the foca`l' queoter than in the first quarter.
Ir 1948, sales of agricultural products in kolkhoz markets increased over
1947 as follows: silk, 22 percent; meat, 18 percent, eggs, 2 percent.
As compared with 1947, retail prices of agricultural products were greatly
reduced: floor and potatoes, 93 percent; milk and eggs, 63 percent; beef,
53 percent.
