Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2011/07/18: CIA-RDP80-00809A000600230373-3 DATE OF 191+9 INFORMATION DATE DIST. ~ Jun 19149 SUPPLEMENT TO REPORT NO. PUBLIC-3ISALTH SMVICE OF MMLDATIA IMPROVES A. Kurella Special Correspondent Kishinev The quantitative and qualitative growth of the public-health service of this young Soviet republic has continued for the past few years. This is clearly indicated from the data included in a report subi0.' tid by the Minister of Public Health of Moldavia, M. Ye. Suklarev. Since 1947, hospital facilities have been increased by 1,110 bbda; the existing hospitals have been enlarged, and 29 new ones have been constructed. The number of ambulatory-polyclinic institutions, surgery-obstetric centers, women's and children's consultation facilities, and nureeries has increased. In 2 years, 18 malaria stations, 65 cliuioo-aiagaostic laboratories, and 31 X-ray departments have been set up. In 1948, the Ministry of Public Health lbldavien SSR set forth the tae`: of improving the quality of specialized aid in the villa.o to the level of the city. This problem is being solved successfully. Even now, there are from 8 to 18 doctors in every village rayon. Surgical divisions existed in only 19 rayon hospitals on 1 January 1948. Now, only eight rayons of Moldavia have no surgeons. All rayons have uterologiste and pediatricians. Other forms of specialized aid are gradually being introduced. However, the plan for specialization and advanced training of physicians has not been completely fulfilled. The republic does not have a sufficient number of oncologists, psychiatrists, pathologists, urologists, and labora.ory technicians. Vice-Minister M. Ya. Oekhtmen submitte" a report on the fight against malaria. S xty-one malaria stations Lave b: n established in the republic. The Ministry of Public Health USM has sent a special expedition to Moldavia. The necessary quan- tity of medicines and materials has been released. Forty rayon malaria stations have bees. equippad with transportation. 0 COUNTRY SUBJECT HOW .PUBLISHED WHERE PUBLISHED DATE PUBLISHED LANGUAGE CLASS1FIW1ON CENTRAL.
