Of the 242 breweries in operation ir. Czechoslovakia ir. 1a48, 230 Were in
the Czech Provinces and 12 tr: Slovakia. Thcso breweries produced 3,119,313
heotolitere of beer, 22,711 of which were exported. Breweries in the Czech
Provinces produced 6,962,712 hectoliters and exported 22,022. Slovakia pro-
duced 1,157,101 hectoliters, 6c^> of which were exported. The breweries used
579,973 quintals of malt (493,122 in the Czech Provinces, 36,781 in Slovakia);
15,811 quintale of hops (1:,313 In the Czech Provinces, 1,999 In Slovakia);
11,313 quintals or syrap +',: a:e.`ening (7,371 in the Czech Provinces, 3,422 in
Slovakia); 8,447 quintelo of ingredients for aveetening end coloring beer
(7,813 in the Czech Provinces, 634 In Sievakira) sr 1~,^_?59 quintals of other
products including sugar, corn grits, and manihot flour:,. Beer production
in 1948 was 8.2 percent (76,10: hectoliters) less than in 1947. The production
was 9.3 percent (712,125 hectoliters) leee in the Otech Provinces and 1.2 per-
cent (14,066 hectolitere) lraa in Slovakia.
In 1948, there were 1?4 malt houses In operation in Czechoslovakia, 172
of which were in the Czec: Provincec and 12 In Slovakia Of this fig~xre 32 malt
houses were independent, 27 being in the Czechi rovincee and 5 In Slovakia.
The remainder were associate' with the breweries. All ta+^ malt houses pro-
duced a total of 1,1c1,240 quintals of malt, 995,337 in the Czech Provinces
and 182,903 In Slovakia. Czech and Bavar'an malt, was pi:;dcce-1 In the total
amount of 1,170,491 qutntait (9tO,40 In the Czech Provinces and 130,02: in
Slovakia). A total of 29,503 quintals of colored and caramel malt was pro-
duced, 26,623 in the Czech Provinces and 2,33C In Slovakia. Other malts,
including diastattc malt, were produced to t .e amount of 1,2116 quintals.
These malts were elclusively produced In y~lt houses oP the Czech Provinces.
In the production of malt, 52.082 quintals f malt sprouts were obtained,
43,692 of which were produced in the Czech Frovlnces and 3,390 In Slovakia.

FOOD PLANT SURPASSES PLAN -- Svobodne Slow, No 89,'15 Apr 49
The food packing plant at the state farm in Prmnerov is planning to prodsoo
10,000 kilogreas of orus:ied fruit and 25,000 kilo s of stewed faflt daring
1949. Drying January and Febroary of this year the plant produced 42 Suintalr
of orashsd fruit and 4,500 jars of panned Vegetables over the plan. Thrnorer
vac, 150 percent greater in February' than had been expected.
