During 194;9, 400,976 hectares will be used for cultivation of industrial
crops, a 43.7-percent increase over 1948.
Because of the great demand for vegetable fate, the area under cultivation
for oleaginous plants will be increased to 97,000 hectares, 42,000 of which
will be planted in winter rape seed and 55,000 in aprir ; rape seed.
Area sawn to spring vLeat was increased from 4,375 hectares in 1948 to
apgroximatelj 11,000 hectares.
In consideration of the domestic demana and export possibilitie'i the
oultivation of chicory will be increased to 7,320 hectares, which is an
85-percent increase over 1948.
In 1949, 255,157 hectares will be planted in sugar beete (14.1-percent
increase) and 32,399 hectares will be planted in potatoes for industrial
processing (43-percent increase).

Because of widespread labcr competition and aid rendered by cooperative
agricrltural machine centers, spring sowing in the Bialystok area is completed.
With row planting, 500,220 hectares were seeded during the last 4 weeks. In
addition, nearly 9.5,000 hectares of fallow laud have been reclaimed by the
fnrmere In Ilk, Olecko, Goldap, and Suvalk powiats.
