Since the war, 120,000 apartments in Moscow have been provided with gas
facilitiee and more than 600 kilometers of gas systems and gas mains have been
laid. This has made it possible to furnish more than one million Moscow res-
idents with cheap and convenient fuel.
The main part of the work as carried out by Moegazetroy (Moscow Con-
struction of Gas Ineiallations) which is an organization of the Moscow City
?oviet. Workers of Moegazetroy provined 90,000 apartments with gas facilities
and constructed nearly 500 kilometers of gas systems and gas mains. Moegazetroy
trusts are working at high speed. In 1948, gas was installed in 34,000 apart-
ments instead of the planned 26,000. During the first 5 months of 1949, gas was
installed in 15,200 apartments as against 8,900 for the samw period of 1948.

Cunstruction of the Mosuo$ Coke-Gas Plant is not progressing satisfactorily.
The chief engineer of the Saratov-Moscow Gas Pipeline has called on engineers of
the Academy of Sciences to aid in combatting corrosion of the pipeline. Ten
specialized organizations of the Ministry of Construction of Heavy Industry Enter-
primes, the Main Administration of Central Construction, the Main Administration
of Special Construction, and others, are working on this project. Everything
necessary has been provided for construction of this plant to allow the start of
production in the last quarter of this year.

Gas consi:!n'Ntion in Kiev is steadily growing. During the first month after
opening the Dashava-Kiev gas main, the population of Kiev r,ceived about 30 mil-
lion cubic metars. Plans are being made to install gas facilities in 30,000
apartments during 1949, that is, essentially the entiril P--'_al part of the city.
Facilities will be Installed soon in Podol'skiy and Pecherskiv,

Gas will also be used in automobiles, and construction and es -ob y of two

A large amount of work is being done to extend gas facilities in cities and
workers' settlements on the basis of the coke-chemical plants in the Donbass.
The extension of gas facilities in Zbdanov has already exceeded the prewar level.
An additional 900 houses will be supplied this summer. Construction of a new
gas main to supply more than 2,000 apartments has begun in Stalino.

NEW INSTALIATIORS IN LENINGRAD -- Leningradskaya Pravda, No 133, 8 Jun 49
Workers of the "Lengazset'stroy" 'dministratio?s (Leningrad Gas System Con-
strurtion) laid 7 kilometers of new street gas maisur in May. Construction has
Jaen completed on the underground main on the embanki,ent of the Moyka Canal
from Nevskiy Prospekt to Kunyunhennyy Street.
Gas pipes are now being laid on Dzerzhinskiy Street, from Sadovaya Street to
the Griboyedov Canal.. The "Lengaz" Administration is connecting new subscribers
with the gas main daily. At present 70,000 apartments receive gas.
