A brigade of about 1,000 volunteers from the People's Front of Sveti
Hikola Srtaz arrived to work on the Kumanovo-Stip railroad line in Macedonia in
March 1949. However, the results it has achieved have not been c?iensurate
with the size of the brigade, largely because of the poor organization and /
awkva,itneee of a brigade of that size working in a project 30 kilometore
long, The cultural and political life of the brigade also has not been
properly organized.
Another special brigade of Front members, recruited mainly from Cigane
Zn-ot identified; ending of place name uncertain7 in Kumanovo Srez, is achiev-
ing excellent reavlta,. All the brigade members have pledged that they will
remain on the project as a per-anent labor force,. Their political life has
been much better organi zed than that of the other brigade, and a literacy
course has been organized. Many brigade members are applying for the technical
courses to be formed at tha proje:;L,.

On 25 May, 2,386 youth from the volunteer construction brigades working
on the Brotherhood and Unity Highway will leavz) for heavy industry enterprises,
and 2,200 viii ieave for mining, _Lie number is far above the planned total
