OKHOTSK FISH PLANT EXPANDS -- Tikhookeanskaya Zvezda, No 111, 13 May 49
In 1948, the Okhotsk Fish Plant (director, Petr Afanas'yevich
N enakhov) processed more then 20,000 centners of fish. The 1949 plan
culls for processing 100.000 fish, a goal which has nece3sitated
considerable expansion and further mechanization of facilities. The
plant completed the basic preparatory work by mid-April, by which
time 1,200 linear meters c`' hydraulic troughs had been built,.1,650
linear meters of pipe laid for the shore water main, six conveyer
installations installeci,,and 1,633 tank sections made. Ten days
later, workmen completed the assembly and reconstruction of additional
fish pumps, conveyers, and water-supply installations, and electrifi-
cation of the shops. The plant is now ready for the season.
OKHOTSK TRUST LAGS IN SEASON PREPARATIONS Tikhookeanskaya Zvezda,
No 112, 14 _lay 49
The Okhotsk State Fish Trust has not been making effective use
of the large amount of assistance it received this year in improving
and expanding its facilities. The trust has permi.ted a serious lag
in meeting the schedule for completing repairs and preparations for
the spring season both on the self-propelled and tug fleet and the
shore installations. The completion date, postponed from 15 April
to 5 May, still has not been met. At present, only half of the
hydraulic troughs have been equipped, only 15 hydraulic conveyers
instead of 24 have been made ready, and repair has not been completed
on the fish wharves. A more serious lag has been permitted in pre-
paring fish pumps. Only four instead of 22 paired installations
have been assembled for operation.
The Morskoy, Partizanskiy, Rechnoy, and a number of other fish
plants are among the least prepared in the trust. having completed

The Kukhtuyskiy Plant, w..lch is scheduled to receive 10,000 centners
of fish per day, has been aapeble of taking,;in only 1,000 centners

similar situation has occurred at the Novo=t'st4nskiy Plant.
ICE SLOWS OKHOTSK FISHING -- Tikbookeanskaya Zvezda, No 110, 12 May 49
The fishing season has started on the Okhotsk coast. Ice is
pre3enting some difficulty, but the fishermen are using all possible
means to take advantage of the season. Fish plants are organizing
the catch not only an the coast, in areas freed of ice, but also
in she rust mouths. Ocean casting nets are being renovated for
use in rivers, and training of fishermen has been started. The
Dal'niy, Tagayanskiy, and other fish plants have been using nets,.
and fishing b; casting nets is being carried on in river mouths in
order not to lose valuable time.
KHABAROVSK FISH PLANTS MODERNIZED Tikhookeanskaya Zvezda, No 117,
20 May k9
All fish plants and combines in Nizhne-Amur Oblast have made
a concerted of ort in the last few months to modernize facilities
and expand production capacity. Preparatory work at the Okhotsk
Fish Plant has been completed for a long time. Breakwaters, on
which have been laid 1,200 linear meters of hydraulic troughs,
? have been built, and two fish docks have been built an(' one reno-
vated. Water mains have been laid, e fish pump conveyer assembled,
and the electric povef plant repaired by the plant's electricians.
Many machine parts are now being produced in the plant area.
Technologists in many of the oblast s enterprises are engaged
in changing and modernizing fish-catching methods, transport,
unloading, processing, and intershop deliveries. Engineer N. I.
Vazhnovaya of the Nizhneye Pronge Combine has designed a sorting
conveyer, all parts of which, except for the electric motors, were
produced in the combine's machine shop. The cannery has been con-
verted to continuous-method production. Construction of a mechanized
salting station has been planned, and assembly of a mechanized
combined ice-crusher and conveyer is being completed. Six new
"kungasy" with cold-storage facilities for transporting fish are
ready for launching.
The Puir Plant is mechanizing all labor-consuming processes.
The plant is installing for the first time scraper conveyers for un-
loading fish from boats and for transport of fish to the work area.
The design of the hydraulic trough system has been modernized to pro-
vide for direct delivery of fish to the tanks. Processing of fish
has been simplified at the Oserpakhskiy Combine. The Dzhaor Fish
Plant has built k "kungasy" having facilities for transporting fish
packed in ice, an innovation which should increase the variety and
quality of fish produced.
