HEMP FACTORY OPENS;

NEW HEMP FACTORY AT BECEJ -- Borba; No 113, i4 May 49
One of the largest and most modern hemp factories in Yugoslavia has
just been opened at BeoeJ in the Vojvodina. This is the second hemp factory
to have been built in Yugoslavia since the war. The first one is at Vran-
jeka Rama in Serbia.
The new factory vas planned with particular attention to good ventila-
tion and other hygienic conditions. Scutching of the hemp will be done by
machinery designed exclusively in Yugoslavia.

The new factory to process hemp and flax at Panoevo will be completed
and put into operation on 1 August. All the office space, the large raw
materials warehouse, the great vat for rotting hemp, and other buildings
have been completed, and concrete ceilings and roofs are now being built.
This factory, one the largnnt of its kind in the Beat, w l1 supply
raw materials to textile' enterprises in Panoevo and in many other pare of
Yugoslavia.

A worker in the cotton mill in Zagreb has built a wire-insulating
machine, to be used on electric motors. Formerly, electric r _:)tors had to
be sent to the "Reds Sonar" Factory when their wires needed wrapping.
This entailed cousiderable lose of time.
The capacity of the knitting section has been increased by the addition
of six machines.

Preliminar,; worn was completed last winter, when all the neeei+eprv
building materials wero obtained, tools assembled, and worrers' beams amass
halls built. The mschinery is already arriving and will be inotalled as
the combine is built.:
