The eucalyptus ti-ec that le found, in great numbers in the soutaern part
of Russia is useful in many wayo. The growing eucalyptus tree is effective
i ^)o_-itrolling malaria because it requires a large amount of water and tends to
dry up any marshes or bogy in its vicinity, thus eliminating potential breeding
places, for malarial mosquitoes. Sucaiyptus oil has been used in ointments and
has proved effective in the treatment of bronchia! disordere. Preparations
made from the leaves are used fc:r reatment of vartoue intestinal diseases.
These preparations are eleo used to Lec:eads the mount of sugar in diabetics.
Suoalyptue ointments have been used ptisfaotorily as analgesics in neuralgie..
Numerous tests on. diseased and pormal animals pnd h'mana proved that oucc;yp-
tus preparations produced no after effects. One of the more famous surgeons at
Sochi, Dr X. A. Aliyev, uses enoalyp4uo preparatlopein his surgical pracvicc.
A program should be initiated tp plant great aumaere of this tree and conduct
research into the medical uses of it/ products.
