Academy of Sciences tSSB has found new sources of vitamins A and D, Vitamin
.I. has been discovered in the liver of base, Roby and mintay, as well as in
whale liver, the concentration of vitamins in the livers of these fish is
particularly great. A whale liver averages I ton, and contains as much vitamin
A as 100 tone of creamery butter or 300,000 eggs. Sea mollusks contain much
matter out of which vitamin D m!?y be extracted.

The Azerbaydrhan State fish industry and collective fisheries completed the
6-month fishing plan on 16 June. In comparison with the sane period of 1948,
55.3 percent more fish were caught.
The following fish plants carried out the spring fishing season well-,
Apah. on exceeded its year plan by 132,6 percent; Khachmas exceeded its year
plan by 46,000 pule of herring; and Kyzyl-Burun exceeded its year plan by
27.3 percent. Collective fisheries have done particularly well, completing
the year plan by 13 May and already catching more than. 51,000 purls of various
fioh above plan.

Thousands of North CaepiSr, fishermen have r'tturned to collectives after
completing the spring fishing season. Spring was delayed this year and the
fishing season began later than usual. However, almost all deep-sea fishing
brigades completed the 6-month plan in the first weeks of May and some even
completed the year's plan? North Caspian fishermen. 'eu'ht about 200,000 pule
of various kinds of sturgeon.
Arkhangel'ek -- The fishing season has started on the White Sea. More than
800 fishermen fran Belomorskiy. Mezsnskiy, and other rayons are working at the
fishery. Ten collective fisheries have completed their 6-month,plans, and 11
have campleted'tts quarter plan. ;Almost 100,000 more pud of fish have been
caught this year than at the same time in 1948. Thirty ships of the Severnaya,
laninskaya, and IIet?-Dvins ya Motor Station recently arrived in the vicinity
of Sboyna to take part in the expeditionary catch.

A fish cannery has beta built and equipped on the Vodlozero River at the
Village of Kuganavolok, Sarslo-Finpis'i SSP., It is the third fish-canning enter-
prise to be built in the Republic since the war.
