During the first 3 years of the Five-Year Plan, more than 51 million square
meters of living quarters were constructed and reconstructed in USSR cities.
More than 1,600,000 new house., were constructed in rural areas.

In the postwar period in the Moldavian SSR, more than 600 industrial enter-
prises, ertels, and industrial ~,ombiues have been restored or newly built. In
comparison with 1940, the fixed assets of Moldavian industry have doubled.

Since the liberation of Belorussia, 383,100 new houses have been built in
villages of the Belorussian SSR. More than 2,000 villages which were completely
destroyed and 8,000 partially destroyed villages have been reconstructed.

Leningrad construction workers recently held a conference in the City Committee
vd;P(b) to consider measures necessary for early ,ompletion of the 6-month plan for
housing construction. .:uz'mich, director of the "Lentyazhstroy" (Leningrad Cunatruc
tion of Heavy Industry Enterprises) Trust and Lyas in, director of "Kirovetroy"
Trust, in their reports, noted that the mechanization of housing construction in
the city is very limited,. Plastering work was :rot mechanized until the and of
May, and "Lenproyekt" and other planning organizations have not, given sufficient
attention to the need for mechanization of construction
The directors of plants such as imeni Lenin and imeni Tego.cv ate also at
fault for failing to require up-to-date plane. Lyubosh, director of "Lenproyekt,"
did not satisfy the conference on the measurea being taken by that organization for
more extensive development of mechanization. Shabrov, chief of the State
Architecture and Construction Control of the city of Leningrad, reported that the
quality of housing construction is still on a low level, and many unnecessary faults
are bung permitted in the construction of new buildings. The outstanding achievements
of construction engineers in otter cities are beIr' introduced into Leningrad on'
a limited scale.
Luk'yanav, deputy chief of the heavy industry pection of the city Party
committee, reported that the city's construction organizations are scheduled to
complete: in a short time nearly 25,000 square meters of housing, but are not
meeting this goal because of the, lag in finishing work.
