This year, the registre' on in pedagogical, agricultural, and other higher
educational institutions will expand considerably. New higher educational in-
stitutions and departments are teing opened. The Agricultural Institute imeni
P. A. Koetychev being set up in Ryazan' will have agricultural and zootechnical
departments. A teachers' institute will be opened this fail in Bobruysk. New
departments and sections are being organized in the Mogilev, Gcnel', and Yakutsk
pedagogical institutes. A section for prepartng Russian-language teachers is
being opened in the Kazan' Teachers' Institute.
A section on the peoples of the Far North and preparatory courses for rep-
resentatives of the northern nationalitise are being organized in the teachers'
institute attached to the Leningrad Pedagogical Institute imeni Herzen.

A nets pedagogical institute, named after N. A. Nekrasov, will be opened
in Kostroma this year. The institute will have four departments, Russian
language and literature, history, physice and mathematics, and natural science

Enrollment of new students has begun at the higher educational lijetitutione
of the Estonian SSR. The Tallin folytechnieal Institute will admit 500 students,
including 50 in the correspondence departments, to the first-year course in the
following_departmsnts: mining chemistry, architecture, mechanical engineering,
and economics. Special groups or instruction in the Russian language are being
formed in all technical departments.

The Moscow Aviation Institute announces the admission of aspirants for
the 1949 - 1950 school year in the following fields: airplane building, air-
plane engines, airplane-instrument building and equipment of airplanes, resist-
ance of materials, theory o' mechanisms and machines, g*sphics and descriptive
geometry, history of aviation technioue, and economic-engineering fields.
Applications and documents and scientific research papers (reports) may be
filed until 1 Septemmber 1949. Entrance exax inations will be held from 15 Sep-
teMberto 10 October 1949. The application must be acc ax,snied. by the following
docrosents: questionnaire, notarized copy of diploma, personnel record, informa-

opened in the villages. The number of boarding schools must be imoreased

rubles have been allocated to ::he bAilding and equipping of these boarding
schools. I particularly extensive network of boarding schools is being created
in Kamchatka and Nizhne :Amur oblaeta, and Nanayskiy and fomsommol'ekiy reaycros.
New boarding schools are being organized also in Hbabarovskiy, Tyazemmskiy, and
Blkipskly rayons and in the Jewish Autonomous Oblast, but they are far from
school preparation for the new year, with particular emphasis on the material

More than 1,300 teachers must complete month courses in the summer to
