Moscow Oblast kclkhozes completed the spring sowing -l n 5 days eazlier them in 1948. The plcn for sowing grain crops, potatoes, and flax (dolgunets) was exceeded as well as the plan for sowing perennial grasses. The fallow- plowing plan was exceeded; 94 percent of fellows were plowed by plows'with'colters. MJSs carried outfield work on 187,000 more hectares than last year. The number of tractors in Moscow Oblast MrSs increased 38 percent during the scond quarter 1949. f1Ss were more: successfuL than last year in repairing reapere, threshers, and zc bines. The 1949 plan for providing electricity for Moscow Oblast kolkhozee was fulfilled ahead of schedule. During the first 6 months of 1949, water supplied in Moscow increased 4 percent, gas supplied fflr household and community needs 19 percent, truck freight shipments 20 percent, passengers carried by trolley buses 4 percent and by buses 8 percent, and cum moral Umadry work 17 percent in comparison with the corresponding period of last year. Capital repair of homes in Moscow city and in the towns of Moscow Oblast shoved a 9 percent gain over the second quarter 1948. There was an increase in sales of consumers' goods during the mrcond quarter 1949, particularly meat, fish, sugar, confectionery, sown articles, knitted wear, ke iery, and leather shoes. Shipmats of agricultural products to kolkhoz markets continued to increase with th., further lowering of prices. Labor productivity of industrial workers showed a 15-percent gain over the second quarter 1949. Trade and FZO schools graduated 8,700 young qualified workers during the second-quarter 19''9. Among the leading enterp:,1sea are the "Mosshtamp," "Gazoapparat," "Krasnyy shtampovshchik," and steel structures plants, pipe foundry, "Krasnaya zvezda" Plant, portable typewriter plant, "Zarya" Factory, and others. Some of them. in,=luding the "Mosshtamp" and "Gaioapparst" plants, rulfil.l.ed their Five-Year Plan quotas by the end of January. Enterprises of the trust have completely restored the prewar assortment of products, and the production of chief products has been considerably increased. For example, production of gas ranges is 8.5 times greater than' in 1940. Production of gas-heated hot-vater tanks increased 5.5 times; comprecaors, 2.5 times; type,. writers, 3times; razors, 16.4 percent; "molniya" mechanical fast.V.erd, 32.3 percent, During the period of the current Five-Year Plan, 25 new workshops and new types of products were introduced in various plants. The principal ones are. iron fooodry for wrought iron at the pipe foundry plant; production shop for celluloid strips made from waste products of movie films at the "Zasya" Factory; shops for leather substitutes.ohd pressed powders at the "Galalit" Plant, plastic shop at the Factory imeni Balakirev. 'lee "IsLra" Plant has openea two new workshops: one for mass production of skates, and the other for r.frigera+ors and compressors. The "Gazoapparat" Plant has also opened two new shops; one for gas meters and the other for enameled gas ranges. The Plant imeni Krasin has organized the production of modern radio receivers, and the "Krasnyy Oktyabr "' Plant is producing detector radio receivers for kolkhoz villages. The steel structures plant has organized production of din_ trucks and garbage' trucks for the city of Moscow. The "Gazoapparat" and "Iskra" plants have also started production of new types of gas appliances far household use and industry. Assembly-line production has been introduced at many Mosn.ow plants. By introaucing new techniques and extending socialist competition, enterprises of the trust increased their labor productivity 2:3 times. The average monthly gross output has been doubled as compared with 1940. Savings above plan as a result of loured production costs amounted to 49.3 million rubles for a period of 3 years and 5 months.
