Truing h9ada with 80 - 150 milometers z 20 - 32 millimaterra carbcrundnm abrasive vheole vas tried on a large scale until 1948. While the truing vne generally satisfactory, the heads were bul~q and heavy and required n great deal of manual labor is installation and removal. The plant had to design a small, compect, and light truing device Por use in the shops. The fall.oving means were tried: (a) hard alloy truing tools; (b) "AZ" vheele mado by the Leningrad SYparimY+ntal Abrasives Plant and the VPIIMAA9h~ 60 z 6 a 20 millimeters superhard vhnels mnde~ bg the Chelynbine), Plant, and "Zinterkolrund^ vheole; (o) metal cutters oP various types; and (d) 80 - 15G m IIlimetem ,arborundum abrasive wheels. Very entiefnotary results v9re achl3ved vSth a metal disc vheelhead. Steel 20%~ 62 - 65 HRC hardness. vas used. The life of these discs ie 2 - 3 weeks when truing 500 millimeter vheele. Among the pnrt6 ground by vheele treated ao above are Type A thrust centers (teentr uporayy tips A) and pistons ground to n precision of 0.015 millimeter. The grinding machine used 400 z 50 z 127 mlIlimeter vheele, ~ Fain, C1 hardness. The use of diamonds hoe been cosroletel.~ alimingted,on 2G percent of the available cylindrical grinding nschiree and partially eliminated a the ra- mainiag in some operations. The introduction o~P metal diet :,~.eelheade hoe affectbd a saving of 43 percent in combined diamond and hard metal mata~iela during three quarters of 1948 ae compared with tr.a cams psri?xl is 1947.
