RecentlT the experimental base of the A11-Union Academy of Agricultural sciences
imeni P. Y. Lonin began testa of the first self-propelled electric coobine. The new
machine cenneta of an 8-4 self-propelled combine on which an electric motor is mounted
instead .)r an internal-combustion ,,ngine. It receives current through a flexible cable
which Is connected to any electric power point through a portable transformer. On one
attachment of the cable the-combine can operate over an area of up to 250 bootares.
Preliminary tests of tho combine have been successful.
The combine was assembled in tho Moscow &xpeiiaental Plant of the All-Union
Institute of Agricultural Electrification. The `Dinamo' Plant imeni Kirov, the Moscow
Transformer Plant, and other Moscow enterprises participated in its manufacture.

All of the electrical controls of the combine are cc-Lcentrated in a small panel
near the steering wheel. The portable transformer substation and all the electrical
eeuipment and apparatus are the same as those on the Er-5 electric tractor. The
electric drive is capable of supporting a considerable overload.
The combine is designated SE-4.

administration to the -Ukrstankoprom' (Ukrainian Machine Tool Industry) Trust of the
Ministry of Local Inda2Lr,)- Ukrainian SSR. This trust assigned it the job of making
1,500 universal mills (for grinding livestock feed) during 1949. The plant was than
transferred to the control of the Main Administration of Agricultural Machinery of
the Ministry of Local Industry Ukrainian SSR. This main administration has failed to
provide the plant with the materials and additional machinery necessary to carry art
this assignment.
