The tot4L rt, abur of students in Soviet higher educational institutions Turing-1949 - 1950 will be 750,000. In addition to existing institutions, many new ones have been opened. On the RH?SR territory alone, 31 teachers' institutes have been estab]i3hed, which will train teachers for incomplete secondary schools. Teachers' institutes have been opened in nanny oblost -and rayon entord of Union republics. The teachers' institute in Tuzhno-Sakhahjn is the first higher education institution in that distant region. The first rural teachers' institute was opened in *ayagutovo village, Duvpnahly Bayou, Bashkir G88R. Students of the Academy of the MsritimsTleet in Leningrad are seamen, engineers, and eecncmiate with complete secondary education, who wish to gain advanced knovledgo. Physioal education faculties were added to the.Taahkent, Izhevek, Lasau , and Kirov pedagogical institutes. The Georgian Poiytechnieal Institute ?mteni S. M. Kirov has a new metallurgical faculty. The Leningrad Pedagogical Institute imeni Gerteen and the Abakan Teachers' Institute in Khakaas Autonomous Oblast have organized special departments to train teachers for the national schools in regions of the year North and the Tuva Autonomous Oblast. The universities of Tbilisi, Terevan, Vil'nyus, and Tashkent have opened departments of Journalism.
