THIS IS UNEVALUATED INFORMATION
"Glavprimorrybprom" (Min Administration of the Primnrskiy Fishing Industry)
completed the 1949 plan for output of canned goods 4 months and 25 days ahead of
schedule. Canneries of the autonomous enterprises of the administration ^=pleted
their Five-Year Plan several days ago. The Matta Cannery was the leader among
tnese enterprises. It fulfilled the year plan on 30 -:,me ancl at ppresent has ex-
ceeded the plan by more than 100 percont. The cannery completed
Plan on l1' July and has exceeded its socialist pledge by 170 percent. The Nel'ma
Cannery completed the 1949 plan on 10 July, the Five-Year Plan on 13 July, and
fulfilled its socialist pledge 136 percent. T:.e Innokent'yevsldy Cannery fulfilled
its year plan 131 percent, the SovgavanT Cannery 100 percent, the Popov 114 per-
cent, and. the Putyatin 105 percent. The 6hernyshevskiy Floating Crab Cannery ful-
fillcA Its year plan 125 percent. The "Vtorcy krabolov" and "Veevolod Sibirtsev"
crab canneries also exceeded. the year plait. This year, output of canned mackerel
is double that of 1948 and output of canna salmon is triple the 1948 fibare.

Fishermen of the Astrakhan' Collective Fishery Union fulfilled 1:AO state
6-month plea for catching fish 108.4 percent and caught 76,500 centnere of fish
above plan. The assistance of party, soviet, and economic organizations in arti-
fically reeoving ice from the rivers and in opening routes for the fishing fleet
both in rivers and ocean fisheries enabled the fisheries to fulfill the second-
quarter plan 113.6 percent. the income to collective fisheries from the fish
catch amounted to 1,200,000 rubles above plan for the first 6 months of 1949. In
addition, the fisheries will receive 7,810,000 rubles, of which 3,900, WO rubles
will be paid to the fishermen for above-plan fish deliveries to the state. The
fisheries must now catch and give the state no lees than 853,000 centnere of fish

an additional 100 sail fishing boats, 65 transport boats; and a greater number
of live-fish tankers and auxiliary sailboats.
More than 4,500 able-bodied collective fleuc~.an a..id not work the established
minimum of working days during the first half of the year, and only 2,302 out of
12,810 fiebermen fulfilled their individual socialist pledges. The bureau of the
Astrakhan' Oblast Committee VKP(b) has been stressing the importance of ocean
fishing during the second half of the year. Collective fisheries are to receive
frog motorized fishing stations 35 new large seinere, and ship pilots and machinists
are being trained now in Astrakhan. Ship repairs are proceeding slowly, with more
than 1,000 fishing vessels now wai.tin? -epair.
The autumn fishing season has begun in Koryak National Okrug, on the west
coast of Kamchatka. Sane of the leading collective fisheries have already ful-
filled the year plan for fishing. During the last 5 years, the,.f?eh industry of
the okrug has almost tripled its fish catch.

Kishinev -- After the recent downpours, the water level of rivers and bays
In Moldavia has risen sharply. The fishing season has begun. During the past
7~x months, tho Moldavian Fish T^ast has given the state almost as many fish as
during all of last year. Ninety-nine percent of the fish was of superior and
high quality.

Yuzhno-Sakhalinek -- Recently the fishing kolkhozes of Sakhalin Oblast com-
pleted the 1949 year plan for catching fish. Fishing was considerably mechanized
this year, thus making it possible for fishermen to increase the fish catch by
1,250,000 poods over the :.948 catch.
The Fishing Kolkhoz invent Kuybyshev on the Kirile Islax:ds, since the beginning
of the spring fishing seaacm, has completed 51--year norms. The fishing kolkhozes
"Rybak" and "Truzhenik" have completed ;4-year norms.
Socialist competition for catching fish has developed widely among Sakhrlin
fishermen.
