The third-quarter plan for average daily loadinC on lkrainian railroads was
fulfilled 101 percent, including 105 percent for pei:roleum, 101 percent for coal,

types of freight on railroads increased 18 percent in the third quarter of .l949
over the same period of 1948, including 19 percent for petroleum, 15 percent
for coal, 35 percent for ore, 33 percent for ferrous metals, and 40 percent for
increased 24 percent over the third quarter of 1948, and the line fulfilled the
third-quarter 1949 plan 120 percent for freight in ton-kilometers and 97 percent
of 1949 over the same period of 1948. The thi_d-;uarter plan was fulfilled 151
percent for freight transport in ton-ki'.ometera and 114 percent for passenger
port Ukrainian SSR increased 63 percent over the third quarter of 1948 and passen-

The third-quarter plan for harvesting and procurement of agricultural prod-
ucts was met successfully. As of 30 September 1949, kolkhozea, eovkhozes, and
peasant holdings in the republic had completed the state grain-procurement plan
(excluding corn) 100.3 percent, and grain deliveries to the state are continuing.
By 10 October 1949, MPS and sovkhozes of the Ministry of State Farms had
harvested 760,000 more hectares of grain crops and 655,000 more hectares of corn
than in 1948.
As of 1 October, kolk:iozee had fulfilled the plat for preparing soil for 1950
tree planting and 1949 autumn tree planting 153 percent.

Ukrainian MPS had completed 17 percent more tractor work by 10 October than
in 1948.
The further development of state and cooperative trade in the third uarter
of 1949 procee,led along the lireo of increases in sales of goods in the trade
system and expansion in the assortment of products, improvement in their quality,
and improvement iu the service to the consumer. Sales of the following products,
in parrtieu.`-ir, incieased: shoes, sewn and knitted wear, woolen and silk fabric,
houacho'.d soap, and ieny food products. The volume of sales increased and prices
decreased on city kolknoz markets as compared with the third quarter of 1948.
In the third quarter of 1949, the total number of workers and employees in
the natioaal economy of the Ukrainian SSR increased by 370,000 over the third

More than 46,000 persons completed trade, railroad and FZO schools and
entered Industrial jobs during the third quarter.
In the third quarter, transport of passengers by streetcars increased 10
percent over the third quarter of 1948; by trolleybneee, 62 percent; and the
supply of eater through the coneazna7.grater-main system increased 9 percent.
