To date, the Bhcharbekovskiy department has eh wn the better progress. Several child medical care institutions have been unified. For example, Polyclinic bo'2, Consultation Clinic No 66, and Child Welfare Center No 202 have been unified with the First Children's Hospital. A blood-transfusion unit has been organized at Polyclinic No 53, and a functional diagnosis unit has been organized at-Polyclinic No 77. The bnybyshev Oblast rural medical network celebrated the 32d anniversary of the Great October Socialist Revolution by expanding its facilities. There are now an additional 10 dentistry units and 12 clinical diagnosis laboratories. Kharkov Gblaa' medical workers are also sharing in the festivities oocaeioned 1`y the anniversary of the Great October Revolution. Thay have completed several modern maternity homes in the villages of Salinino, Chernetchi.na, and Andreyeva, Borovekiy Rayon. An additional 36 buildings are being prepared for maternity purposes. Leading workmen at the Chemicopharmaceutical Factory in Riga have developed a new technological process for the production of glycerophoaphate. As a result, production has been doubled. Excellent results weze obtained by improving the electrolyuie process In the manufacture of calcium.gluconate. Other efficiency measures made it possible to increase the production of medicinal terpin hydrate by 12 percent. The Leningrad Chemicopharmaceutical Institute has renewed a trr.ining pro- gram with acne changes which will soon result in better qualified workers for the chemicopharmaceutical industries. There are 77 hospitals, 78 polyclinics, and more than 500 other medical establishments. Recently, construction has been started on 22 new rural hospitals, two laboratories and five X-ray stations. Mikhaylov has been replaced by Doctor of Y--dical Sciences P. A. Peloshapko as chief obstetrician of the Ministry of Public Health USSR. This shift was necessary to relieve Prof Mikhaylov of some of his work load and to permit him to consolidate his energies.
