The Svetlana Plant in Leningrad has achieved its prewar level of production,
although it has 40 percent fewer personnel than it did in 1940.? Rejects at the
plant have been out 15 percent. Automatic. machine transfer lines for the manu-
facture of light bulbs are now being set up, the spraying of radio vacuum tubes
has been mechanized, and glass elements are now processed entirely by machine.

Trade union committees have been particularly active in the galvanizing and
metal vacuum tube shops. The committees have speeded up production and improved
working conditions.

hard alloy is in great demand in enterprises of Leningrad and other cities.
Made by the "Elektroeila" Plant, the unit is eagerly studied almost daily

engtfters from many power p..ai.is.

It was noted that labor productivity at the "Elektroinetrument" Plant was
considerably lower during the night shift than during the day shift. Lack of
foremen at same of the shops proved to be the cause. When this fault was
corrected, labor productivity increased 28.4 percent.

increased its output three times over the July figure, and 95 percent of the

A new stamp has been installed for making bulb bases of iron, rather than

the time it took the old stamp to complete 100.

The "Remmnalenergo" (Reiublic Office for Repair and Maintenance of Power
Nquippent) has pledged to carry out a number of measrres which would aid rural
eleotrificati,fn of the Belorussian SSR. Two hundred electric motors, 20 electric
generators, 1,000 single-phase electric meters, 200 three-phase electric meters,
200 electric measuring instruments, and many other items will undergo capital
repair. In addition, ten experimental power installations will be built at
rural electric stations.
