Since the wa: Yugoslavia hsa opened txo petroleum fields iu Croatia, at the iCutina and at the Ler3ava rivers. A;.most every xell drilled has yielded vetroleum. Because of the success of the drillings, a third field has nox heeu opened in the vicinity of Zacreb. Besides finding petroleum in Slavonia, in the Medjimurje, and 1.. Bosnia, geologists have also found it in the Banat. Southern lla'mati.a, the Montenegrin Primorje, and Macedonia are beigg surveyed for oil. By 1947 Yugoslavia rras able to reconstruct the oil refineries in Bosanski Broil, Sisak, and Rijeka, xhich xez?e Sompletely destroyed by the occupation forces. In the first half of 1949, 4$ per- cent morn oil vsa refined than Yugoslavia impcrted in the entlre year 1939. In addition to oil fields, natural gas deposits are nox be'ng exploited. Yugoslavia has about 40 such deposits: 20 in Croatia, 6 in the Banat, 5 in the Hacks, 3 in tht vicinity of Belgrade. The rest are in the Sava, Morava, and Drina valleys.
