The second aviation school in Poland has been opened at the Polytechnicurn
in Wrnclaa. Prof Jcrzv Teisseyre has been appointed dean. Professorships ,n
aerodynamics, air-frame construction, aircraft engine construction, and tech-
nology of aeronautical materials hale been set up in the school. Three other
professorships will be established soon. The school has several small labora-
tories and the only wind tunel in Poland. A grant made by the Ministry of Ed-
ucatici; for 1950 will cover the construction and full equi.pnent of an aircraft
engine laboratory and }n aviation museum.

The Ministry of Navigation is accepting applications for one-year office'cI
training enurces in navigation and engineering for the Polish Merchea': I:aoane.
Reouirements for eligibility are: (1) graduation from a general or vocational
college, (2) age n.t over 23 years, and (3) very good health. A detailed bio-
graphical summary together with proof of social and political work must also be
enclosed. Only written applications will be accepted, and these should be sent
to the Ministry of Navigation, Department of Education, Filtrova Street 57,
Warsaw, not later than 15 December 1949.
MORE MUTING SCHOOLS FOR POLAND -- Repatriant, No 42, 21 Oct 49
The Mining Industry has organized 413 mining schools and eight workshop
schools. Training in these schools lasts 3 years and students receive remunera-
tion for 46 hours per week, 28 of which are spent to c+.ual work and 18 are de-
voted to studies. Studies and actual wor'c are interrelated. After completion
of study, a student may qualify as a miner's assistant; a coke-maker's assistant,
a mechanic, or an electrician. If the graduate wishes to continue his studies,
he may enter a technical college.

ment construction. Candidates for these schools must have completed a minimum
of u?o':cn grades in an elementary school. Four days a week are spent in school
and 2 days in actual work. Courses last 3 'years. Upon completion of study, the
student becomes an assistant foremen in his own specialized field. After com-
pleting the high schools, the students may then enter colleges, where the courses
last 2 years. In colleges, theory only is given and experience is obtained durin?
their vacations. Upon completion of the studies at the Technicrl and Mining
College, the graduate receives a miner's, superintendent's, workshop engineer's
or mining engineer's diploma.
For boys who have completed their 17th year but not their 19th and. who
have not had the opportunity for training, one-year industrial training courses
have been organized. At these schools, students receive their meals, clothing,
footwear, and training. The most ant students are sent to other schools for

wish to improve in their line of 4orh. Six-month courses prepare miners with
mazy years of practical experience for minor supervisory positions, and one-year
courses entitle them to intermedtst- -:-__-_._'o._ ,y positions. Candidates for these
courses may not be over 40 years of age. The highest level in mining studies is
attained in the Mining Academy and the Mining Division of the Polyte'shnicum.
Over 26,000 persons are taking advantage of -carious mining courses. During
the academic year. 1948-49, 11,000 students were attending schools sponsored by
the mining and mining workshop industry. There were 2,500 students in high
schools, 750 in colleges, 4,000 in industrial preparatory s..houls, and 8,030 in
training courses.
