THIS IS UNEVALUATED INFORMATION REPORTS EX-MINISTER LECHOWICZ TG BE TRIED SAYS GOVERAlfENT WILL STAGB "SHOW" TRIALS -- Ostatnie WSndomescl, No 139, 9 Dec 49 According to a recent well-informed source from Poland, the gcvernment is getting ready to stage a series of sbov trials, starting with the former minister, Lechowicz; several vice-ministers, and other high state officials. The n+mes of the accused vice-ministers, Dublel and Jnroezewlez, were already mentioned at the ]ast p]enm of the ~1nlted Polish Worker' a party as accomplices of Lechowlcz. Premier Cyrankievlcz declared then that another accomplice of Lechovicz was T. Kochanovicz, the recently arrested Vice-MSnieter of Social Security. It is also highly probab)e that Kowalewekl, Grosicki, and Borowy, three other vice-ministers, will be brought to trial together with Lechowlcz. The Lechowicz trial aims at uncovering incriminatory evidence to be used in the future trial of Gomulka, Spychalski, and K1lezko. This trial will also determine the fate of many others, but will mainly hit former supporters of the present regime from the Democratic Party, of v61ch Lechowicz vas one of the fore- most leaders. The position of Lechowicz's old friend and protector, ChaJn, is likely to be shaken. Following she former's arrest, ChnJn loot hie post u Vice-Minister of Justice, and vas put, together with Gomulka, in the secondary position of vice-president of the Supreme Control Commission. TSere they are closely vatchr_d by the president, General Jozviak, known ae "Witold," former vice- mirister of the sec~.irity police. Several PSL leaders, in:luding BryJn and Mre Hulevicz, have been awaiting trial for 2 years. It is generally believed Sn Poland that their trial follow- ing the usual tactics, would have taken place before the merger of the PSL, but, apparently, that vas not the intentions of the Politburo.
