KMT GUERRILLAS HARASS SOUTHERN AREAS;
COMMUNISTS ARREST KMT AGENTS IN PEI-PING, FU-CHOU
On 20 February, more than 1,000 KMT guerrillas from Lofou Shan attacked the
CCF 3d Battalion, commanded by Huang Ping-ken (Ueda: 14693, 8185, 2905), of the
2d Detachment of the Kwangtung-Kiangsi-Hunan Border Region Column, at Lung-men and
inflicted casualties on more than 60 Communist officers and men.
It is said that the KMT guerrillas in this, area are commanded by Chao Yuan-
shen (11479, 6396, 6285) and number more than 2,000.
The arms and ammunition of these guerrillas are being supplied by the KMT au-
thorities in Taiwan. Recently, the EMT authorities dispatched Hsu Tung-lai (3141,
4765, 282) from Hainan to Tung-chiang to assume command of the guerrilla unit of
this area, and Lin Chin-sheng (4803, 12022, 7461) to assist him.
Hai-k'ou, 18 March -- The "X" Detachment of the "X" Column of the Kwangtung
Anti-Communist People's Self-Defense National Salvation Army (min-chung fan-kung
tzu-wei chiu-kuo-chun) attacked Communist-held Chan-chiang on 3 March and again
on 6 March 1950, killing or wounding more that, 150 Communist troops. It is re-
ported that they also captured three LMGs, 90 rifles, and much other equipment.
The KIT guerrillas under the command of Tang Yen-kuang (6381, 6801, 567) in
the coastal areas of Kwangtung are reported to be successfully harassing the CCF
stationed in Tung-kuan, Pao-an, Plan-yu, and Chung-shah areas. Because of these
guerrilla activities, it is said that the People's Liberation Army recently dis-
patched six additional battalions to reinforce the Communist forces of these
areas.

SIKANG KMT REMNANTS ENGAGE :'.N GUERRILLA ACTIVITIES -- Kung-Shang Jih-pao, 21 Feb 50
Taihoku, 19 February -- It is reported that the remnants numbering more than
40,000, of the former KMT forces under the co.,mand of Hu Tsung-nan (9411,?2322,
10].0) are now actively engaged in guerrilla activities in Sikang and are causing
great distress to the Communist authorities.
INCREASING ANTI-COMMUNIST MOVEMENT IN CENTRAL CHINA -- Hsing-tao Jih-pao, 17 Mar 50
Taihcku, 16 March -- A KMT military source reported today that it has reliable
information indicating that organized anti-Communist movements are increasing in the
lake region of Hunan, Hsi-chiang area in Kwangtung, the Lin-hsia Huien in Kansu, and
the Sung-plan area of Szechwan. In addition, it is reported that the Me guerrillas
in the Southwest are increasing their activities and have captured the city of
Kwang-ting in Sikang.
LO CEO-YING MAY ASSUME COMMAND OF SOUTHWEST 10 GUERRILLAS -- Hu-sherig Pao,
19 Mar 50
It is rumored that Lo Cho-ying (9144, 1005, 9795), formerly governor of Kwang-
tung Province, was appointed Commander of the Southwest KMT guerrillas by the KM
Ministry of National Defense. Plans are also being made by the KMT military lead-
ers to place all guerrilla units under the command of the military forces.
KMT GUERRILLAS IN FUKIEN ANNIHILATED -- Wen-hui Pao, 22 Feb 50
The following reports on the guerrilla-suppression campaign in Fukien were re-
cently released by the CCF:
1. In yung-an Haien the CCF captured Chen Yuan-chin (12864, 560, 12022) and
80 other KMT guerrillas. Chen is the commander of the KMT guerrilla battalion
in this hsien.
2. In the western part of the province the pressure of the CCF forced Chen
Wen-sun (12864, 4321, 2282), Yeh Tz'u-fu (99o6, 3439, 8148), and Chen Jen-chun
(12864, 168, 328), bogus heads of Yung-an, San-yuan, and Ch'ing-ch'i hsiens, re-
spectively, to surrender voluntarily.
3. In Ning-yang Hsien, Yu Shui-ch'ao (593, 5952, 6554), bogus head of the
hsien, and 97 other KMT bandits were captured by the CCF.
CCF ANNIHILATES 10,000 EM GUERRILLAS -- Wen-hui Pao, 22 Feb 50
Nan-ching, 21 February -- The East China Military District Headquarters re-
cently announced that during November and December 1949, more than 10,000 KMf
guerrillas and bandits were either killed or captured. It also reported that a
large amount of arms and ammunition were also captured.
KMT SPY RINGS UNCOVERED IN PEI-P'ING AND FU-CHOU -- Wen-hui Pao, 17 Mar 50
The Public Security Bureaus of Pei-p'ing and Fu-thou recently announced the
uncovering of KMT spy rings in their cities.as follows:
On 26 February. the Pei-p'ing Public Security Bureau arrested ten KMT spe-
cial agents, including Chi Chao-shiang (10896, 564) 8130) and his sister Chi Ts'ai-
nan (10896, 12367, 1010), and confiscated a radio transmitter, guns, and other
equipment. These agents were gathering vital information in the Pei-p'ing --
T'ien-ching areas and transmitting it to the Taiwan KMP leaders. It is said that
during 1949 they dispatched more than 200 messages to the KMT bandits in Taiwan.

On 4 March, the Fu-thou Public Security Bureau captured Yeh Hein-lao (9966,
3179, 6172) which led to the arrest of several other K .W- e$Nnt4 v_eh _,,1 his men
were relaying information on strategic bombing targets, the effects of bombing,
and other vital information regarding the Fu-chou area to the Taiwan IQII leaders.
