The people-owned shipyards in Dessau-Rosslau are equipped to build
:;ix ships at a time, and one ship per fortnight is released from the con-
;truction dock. According to Kuenzel, technical director of the shipyards,
t.rewar production has been more than doubled. At present, the enterprise
=.mploys 1,300 workers, and it is planned to increase this number to 2,000,
including 700 technicians.

The first deer sea-fishing lugger completed in 1950 has been laul,che.:
y the people-owned shipyards in Rosslau. Other 400-ton ships will be
built this year.
The current production output of the shipyard is about 250 percent in
excess of 1938 production. An increase of from 600 to 2,000 workers will
be required for further expansion.

The second fishing lugger this year has been launched by the Neptun
Shipyards in Rostock. The shipyards plan to build an additional 45 Tug-
gers during 1950.

ORDERS REREGISTRATION OF ALL SHIPS -- Taegliche Rundschau, No 45, 22 Feb 50
On 30 January 1950, the Minister for Transportation issued an order
requiring the rersgistration, on or before 31 March, of all freight and
passenger ships, including vessels suitable for coastal service.
Registration will take place at the Inland Waterways Directorates in
Berlin and Magdeburg and at the Bureaus for Waterways in Dresden, Stralsund,
and Rostock.
