THIS IS UNEVALUATED INFORMATION Today, there are about eight times as many infirmaries in North Korea as there were prior to 15 August 1945. In addition, there are 60 public-health cen- ters and nine medical colleges. During the period preceding the liberation, there was not even one medical research center for contagious diseases nor one medical supply manufacturer, but today there are 489 health and medical research centers. In an effort to develop the public-health program on a par with national economic progress, the government has appropriated a sum of 710 million won for the fis- cal year of 1949 and 780 million won for 1950.
