TO INCREASE 1950 EXPORTS FIVEFOLD -- Der Mergen, No 5, 6 Jan 50
The factories comprising the Association of People-Owned Saner (sani-
tary fixtures) Plants are planning to increase exports fivefold during 1950.
In the immediate future a sales agreement involving several million dollars
will be concluded with the USSR. Negotiations are in progress for an export
order to Poland which will total 2.5 million dollars. Sizeable export agree-
ments have also been concluded with Holland,'and'a shipment amounting to one
million Dutch guilders is now being dispatched to that country. Negotiations
are being carried on with Argentina and India concerning fixtures for ships
and locomotives and gas and heating appliances. An initial order for 18,000
dollars' worth of sanitary fixtures has been received from Denmark.
The Sanar enterprises employ approximately 9,500 workers at present.
The largest percentage of export. orders is handled by the IKO plant in Dessau.
EXPORTS MECHANICAL DEVICES -- Der Morgen, No 5, 6 Jan 50
The Association of People-Owned Mechanical Enterprises controls the 21
plants of the photographic, motion-picture apparatus, and office-machine
industries in Soviet Zone Germany. In 1949 these factories exported products
valued at 23 million Deutsche marks. The chief consumers were Poland, the
USSR, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Sweden, Denmark, Holland, Switzerland, and
Italy. Exports consisted mainly of portable typewriters; bookkeeping and
adding machines made by the Astra and Wanderer plants in Chemnitz and by the
Mercedes plant in Zella-Mehlis; sewing machines made by Clemens Mueller and
by Seidel and Neumann, in Dresden; and motion-picture apparatus made by Zeiss-
Ikon (Dresden). The Contax-S camera; introduced by Zeiss-Ikon in 1949, was
an especially popular export article.

RECEIVES WORT ORDERS FOR ILECTRICAL EQUIPMENT -- Der Morgan, No 8, 10 Jan 50
The people-owned electromechanical plant in Radebeul received an order
for 200 vacuum sweepers for shipment to Austria.
The Kamenz branch factory of the Association of People-Owned Kaolin,
Glass, and Ceramics Enterprises i:. Sachsen has received an export order from
Czechoslovakia for electrical porcelain amounting to over 66,000 dollars.
64,000 TONS OF FOOD IMPORTED IN 1949 -- Bauern Echo, No 9, U Jan 50
In 1949 Sachsen received food imports of over 64,000 tons. Approximately
70 percent of the shipments originated in the USSR and the Satellites. The
USSR supplied, among other things, 23,000 tons of grain and 6,400 tons of fats.
