RED CHINA CHARGES SOUTH KOREA
WITH OPPRESSION OF OVERSEAS CffiIESE
South Korea, the most recent target of Chinese Communist propa-
ganda, is being accused of oppressing overseas Chinese in that country.
This charge was made by the Hsin-hua in a United Press dispatch from
Hong Kong which appeared in the 7 March Nan-ch'iao Jih-pao. The Chi-
nese Communist news agency said that under the pretext o checking
smuggling activities, South Korean special agents are attaching or con-
fiscating the goods of overseas Chinese. It further charged that land
which overseas Chinese own or rent has been seized by the government
and the business licenses of many have been canceled.
The US was implicated when the Peiping Radio denounced the "US-
controlled" South Korean government of Yi Sung-man (Syngman Rhee) for
persecuting overseas Chinese. A United press report from Tokyo of this
broadcast was published in the 8 March Nan-ch'iao Jih-pao.
