By ukase of the Presidium, Supreme Soviet USSR, of 25 February 1950, ranks
and nev insignia are to be introduced for commuind personnel of the Main Ad-
ministration of the Civil Air Fleet and the organizations subordinate to them.
The folloving ranks are establlehed for command personnel.

Junior Command Personnel

Ranks are to be awarded to superior command personnel of the Main Admin-
istration of the Civil Air Fleet by dscr?:e of the Council of Mini..;tare USSR,
The chief of the Main Administration of the Civil Air Fleet is to estab-
lish the t'~- limit for adoption of the new insignia for command personnel
and students. The Presidium, Supreme Soviet USSR, confirmed the new rank in-
signia for command personnel and students of the Main Administration of the
Civil Air Fleet as follows.
Shoulder boards are six-sided, with the long sides parallel. The shoul-
der end of the board is rectangular; the neck end has Pour obtuse angles, The
board is 14-15 centimeters long and 5 centimeters wide. The edges, except for
the shoulder end, are bordered with light-blue cloth. Shoulder boards are stiff
and detachable; on parade uniforms, however, they are sewed on and are soft,

sewed on both sleeves of the overcoat, cape, or ,jacket. Sleeve rank insignia ?
Por command personnel of the Operations Service consists of gold braid sewed on
a turquoise background; for command personnel of the Technical Service, silver
braid on a turquoise background; for command personnel of the Administrative
Service, silver braid sewed directly to the clothing without any special back-
ground,
The braid is in the form of a chevron with the point up; it is saved on the
middle outside part of the sleeve,
Wide braid is 2.8 centimeters, meth um 1.6 centimeters, and narrow 0.6 centi-
meter, with a space of 0,3 centimeter between the braid stripes.
The emblem of the Civil Air Fleet, silver wings on a gold hammer and sickle,
is embroidered 1.5 centimeters above the point of the angle, The wings are 6
centimeters across.
Shoulder boards for the Operations Service are made of specially-braided
gold braid on a cloth base; for the Technical and Administrative services, spe-
cially-braided silver braid on a cloth base.
Shoulder boards of a General-polkovnik have three small embroidered gold or
silver stars, General-leytenant two small embroidered stars, and General-mayor
one small embroidered star,
The stars measure 20 millimeters from point to point, A pentagon is em-
broidered in light blue thread in the center of the star, Sides of the penta-
gon measure 2.5-3 ~.llimeters.

The emblem designating the specialty is embroidered on the shoulder boards,
Buttons on the shoulder boards bear the USSR seal and are gold-plated met-
al, 1.8 centimeters in diameter.
Sleeve rank insignia of a General-pol'-;vnik consists oP one broad and
three medium braid stripes, General-leytenant one broad and two medium stripes,
and General-mayor one broad and one medium stripe,
RANK INSIGNIA FOR SENIOR AND INTERMEDIATE COMMAND PERSONNEL
Shoulder boards for the Operations Service are made of gold braid on a
cloth base; for the Technical and Administrative services, silver braid on a
cloth base. Shoulder boards have 4-millimeter turquoise stripes; two stripes
for senior command personnel a.:d one stripe Por intermediate command personnel.

middle of the board,
Buttons on the shoulder board bear the Civil Air Fleet emblem and are gold-
plated metal, 1.8 centimeters in diameter.
Branch of service is represented by oxidized-metal emblems on the shoulder
boards.
Rank is indicated by five-pointed gold or silver-plated metal stars at-
tached along the center of the board. The stars are 16 millimeters from point
to point.
Stars and stripes are arranged on the board as follows: colonel -- txo
stripes, three stars; lieutenant colonel -- two stripes, two stare; major -
two stripes, one star; captain -- one stripe, four stars; senior lieutenant -
one stripe, three stars, and lieutenant -- one stripe, two stars.
Sleeve insignia for n colonel consists of one broad braid stripe, lieuten-
ant colonel four medium stripes, major three medium stripes, captain two medium
stripes, senior lieutenant one medium stripe, and lieutenant four narrow stripes.

RANK INSIGNIA FOR JUNIOR COMMAND PERSONNEL
Shoulder boards are made of dark-blue cloth on a cloth base. Buttons on
the shoulder boards have the Civtl Air Fleet emblem, are metal, and are 1.8
centimeters in diameter. btetal emblems on the shoulder boards designate branch
of service.
Gold or silver braid stripes sewed on the board indicate rank: sergeant
first class -- one 7-millimeter lengthwise stripe and one 20-millimeter cross
stripe, sergesnt second class -- three 7-millimeter crosswise stripes, and ser-
geant third class -- two 7-millimeter crosswise stripes,
Slccve insignia for sergeant first class consists of four 0.6-centimeter
light-blue cloth stripes, sergeant second class three light-blue stripes, and
sergeant third class two light-blue stripes,

Shoulder boards for students in higher educational institutions and schools
of the Civil Air Fleet are made of Sark-blue cloth on a cloth base, Metal tut-
tons on the shoulder boards have the Civil Air Fleet emblem and are 1,8 cen-
timeters in diameter.
Students in aviaticn schools wear the emblem of the Operations Service
on their shoulder boards; students in aviation tec~.sicnl sc'..o?-ls wens ine em-
blem of the Technical Service.
Students in educational institutions of the Main Administration of the
Civil Air Fleet wear sleeve insignia consisting of one 0.6-centimeter 11ght-
blue cloth stripe and the emblem of the Civil Air Fleet on both sleeves.
Emblems to denote branch of service are made of gold- or silver-colored
metal and attached to the shoulder boards at a distance of 3 centimeters Prom
the center of the button to the center of the emblem.
The emblems are as follows:
Operations -- Civil Air Fleet emblem
Technical -- crossed key and hammer
Administrative-managerial -- hammer and sickle
Juridical -- shield superimposed on two crossed swords
Medical -- mortar with serpent
Militarized guard -- two crossed rifles.
