SINKIANG ESTABLISHES SSFA BRANCH
Urumchi, 25 February (Hsin-hua) -- On 23 February, the Sinkiang branch
of the Sino-Soviet Friendship Association was formally established in Urumchi.
The officials appointed include: chairman -- Burhan, Governor of the
Sinkiang Province People's government; deputy chairmen -- Savinov, Saifudin,
Kao Chin-shun, and Wang Chen; and members of the board of directors -- all the
deputy chairmen, plus Kolekov, Yosef, HsU Shao-Ch'ing, Teng Li-ch'iln, Jac,
Cheng-hsi, and 22 others. fSavinov" and "Kolekov" are approximations from
the Chiuese_7
During the ceremony organizing the branch speeches were made by Burhan,
Kao Chin-shun, and Kolekov. Burhan called on all nationality groups in Sin-
kiang to unite and to cooperate with the Russians, learn Soviet ways of build-
ing up armed forces so that the New China can establish a modern army which
can contribute towards safeguarding world peace. Both Kao and Kolekov expressed
similar sentiments. They emphasized that there is a great need for strengthen-
ing Sino-Soviet ties and for promoting cultural and economic intercourse be-
tween the two countries.
