Peiping, 7 April (Hsin-hua) -- The government controlled Hsin-hua Book
Concern is rapidly extending and strengthening its organization throughout the
whole country, and the volume of its publications has soared astonishingly.
An official investigation, made during March 1950, has revealed the existence
of 740 places of business, located as follows:
North China region: one main divisional headquarters, nine divisional
headquarters, 65 branches.
East China region: two main divisions, 13 divisions, 374 branches.
Northeast region: one main division, 16 divisions, 180 branches.
Central and Southern region: two main divisions, five divisions, 42 branches.
Northwest region: two main divisions, four divisions, 18 branches.
Southwest region: one main division, five divisions.
In other regions, and among the troops, there are also a considerable num-
ber of branches or sales agencies not yet regularly integrated into the main sys-
tem.
The Hsin-hua Book Concern, through its Peiping offices alone, in the 4
months from November 1949 to February 1950 inclusive, has issued more than 3,400,000
books, booklets, and pictures. These consisted in the main of the following items:
Writings of Marx, Engels,
Lenin, and Stalin
Writings of Mao Tse-tung
Political policies

During the same 4 month,, 50 issues of eight magazines, totaling 1,160,000
copies were published. They included the following titles: Sino-Soviet Friend-
ship, Hsin-hua Monthly, New Chinese Woman, People's Literature, People's Art,
Literature and Art (370,000 items), Struggle for Peace and Democracy (520,000
items), ~%d Speaking and Singing.
"CHUG-KUO KUNG-JEN" BEGINS PUBLICATION -- Hong Kong Wen-hui Pao, 13 Feb 50
Peiping, 12 February -- The first issue of a monthly publication of the All-
CLina Workers Federation, the Chung-kuo Kung-jen (China Workers), was published
it January 1950.
"CHOU-MO KUAN-CH'A" PUBLISHED IN TAIHOKU -- Hong Ko, Kung-shang Jih-pao, 11 Feb 50
The weekly magazine, Chou-mc Kuan-ch'a (Week-end Observer), which was formerly
published in Shanghai, is now published in Taihoku.
"HSIN-HUA YUEH-PAO" SOLD IN HONG KONG -- Hong Kong Wen-hui Pao, 11 Feb 50
The latest edition of Hsin-hua Yueh-pao (New China Monthly), Published in
Peiping, is now on sale in Hong Kong through the San-lien Book Store.
