COMBINE TO MAKE STARCH -- Rad, No 80, 4 Apr 50
Zrei.janin, 3 April -- A large starch and glucose factory is being built in
Zrenjanin. Together with the sugar factory and other auxiliary buildings and
warehouses, it will form a large food-industry combine. The factory will make
starch.out of corn (which has thus far been exported), and utilize it in the
paper and leather industry. By further processing starch, glucose will be ob-
tained, With the processing of 72,000 tons of corn per year, about 8 million
dinars will be saved in foreign exchange.
Over 72 million dinars' worth of livestock fodder and various oils will be
recovered yearly from the corn kernels. A standard-gauge railroad track is being
constructed, which will pass through the sugar and starch factories, pass near
the sugar warehouse, and em,..._ at the "Zrenjanin-Fabrika" (ZrenJanin factory)
Railroad station.
Thus far, 40 percent of the necessary standard-gauge track has been laid,
and 40 percent of the starch factory has been constructed. A 10,000-kilowatt
power plant with four turbines is scheduled to be completed in the near future.
The amount of starch produced by the combine will save Yugoslavia about 144 mil-
lion dinars in foreign exchange per year.
TO MAKE 6,500 TONS OF PORCELAIN YEARLY -- Rad, No 80, 4 Apr 50
KraguJevac, 3 April -- Construction of a large electric porcelain factory
is scheduled to be completed at the end of this year. The factory is expected
to produce 6,500 tons of porcelain per year, including 3,000 tons of low- and
high-tension equipment and 500 tons of pressed porcelain. Rich deposits of
kaolin are located in the vicinity of the factory. The rooms of the factory
will be constructed of prefabricated parts.

Daruvar, 31 March -- Experiments on making soap from corn waste in the new
local soap factory in Daruvar were succes'ful. Five hundred kilogram of good
soap have been produced. Preparations are being made for the production of toilet
soap.
