The following items present information on the activities of electrical
industry plants in Moscow during the period 30 December 1949 - L4 March 195C.
Numbers in parentheses refer to the appended sources..
Electric Machine-Building Plant imeni Vladimir Il'ich
3 Jan: Has developed a new electric motor, the AO-83, designed for use
in the textile industry. The motor will soon be in series production.(1)
13 Jan: Currently produces 20 different types of electric motors. Dur-
ing 1950 it will get 24 new types into production. Designers are working on
a new super-depth electric motor which will operate in petroleum shafts as
far down as 5,000 meters below the surface.(2)

3 Feb: Preparations for series production of th..,.e DQM1,.S- electric motor
are nearly complete.(3)
Electric Bulb Plant
30 Dec: Will.make 8 million more bulbs In 1950 than wring 1949. Series
production of automobile headlight bulbs will be begun. Output of fluorescent
bulbs will be eight times as great as during 1949.(4)
27 ,Tan: The plant's specialists are working with scientific institutes
in Moscow to develop new methods of obtaining luminophora, the powder which
covers the inside of fluorescent bulb tubes and glows under the effect of the
gas discharge. They are also collaborating with workers from the Institute
of Plant Physiology of the Academy of Sciences USSR on experiments in the speed-
ing of plant growth under wi$$ter conditions by means of exposure to daylight
bulbs. The experiments are proceeding successfully.(5)

SERRE1
4 Feb: The plant laboratory is developing new bulbs of varinu: enectrel
characteristic-, and is discovering new methods of producing L.uninophora. Lum-
inescent bulba are being widely used in greenhouses and hothouses to speed
plant growth. The bulb for this purpose was (f.eveloped in collaboration with
the Institute of Plant Physiology.1:6)
Dinamo Plant imeni Fir!-,
7 Jan. During the past 2-? years, the Dinamc Plant ha, begun production
of electrrc,~.l equipment for the new automatically controlled Diesel engines,
equipment for 1,50C- and 4,000-volt suburban rail motor-cars, a u,-.., r,agle-
series traction engine for subway trains, tram-=, trolley- and .},?c^s a new
series of AC crane engines, and electric equipment for 3-cubic-meter excava-
tors. During 1950, the plant is to increase the output of crane en,-nes 60
percent, tram engines and apparatus 37 percent, and mining equipment i7 per-
cent. (7)
11 Jan: Pledges to exc~oed January plan by 50 commutator b:)x asemb.lies
for MT series electric motors. A new conveyer has been set up in machine-shop
No 3 for assembly of a new cerien of crane motors.i,8,9)
Transformer Plant
3 Feb: The Moscow Tr:.n::fo_^.ner Plant imu.ni Kuybyshev had ach: eved the
1950 level for average monthly output of power transformers. The plant wa:,
the original builder of the 60,000-kilowatt-ampere transformer. The plant's
.corkers restored the transformer equipment at the Dnepr GDS, Azovstyl' Plant.
and Zaporos.hstal', and it. has built new transformer for the 3talirogo.rsk GDS,
Donbass mines, etc. It is now preparirg for production of transformers for
substations of the high buildings now under const:ructian in Mc c.ow. The plant
has pledged to complete five special (unikal'nyy) power transformers for Mos-
energo and the Donbass.(10)
Dloc:tric Tools Plant
1.4 Mar: In January, the Moscow Electric Tools Plant began a special drive
to complete its Five-Year 1an by election day. Today, that objective vas at-
tained. In 4 years and 2 months the plant had produced for indi.stry and agri-
culture 200,000 wire-cutting shears and flat-nosed pliers, an equal number of
screw taps and screw dies, tens of thousands of drill chucks, blow torches,
tool kits, and other items.(ll)
Instruments Plant
13 Feb: The conversion of ammeter and voltmeter production to convcuycl?_
line Wcthods has enabled tht plant to exceed its monthly quotas. A conveyer
line from the raw materials: warehouse to the billet shop is now under ccnr?t?rur,-
tion. This will complete the mechanization of the plant's processess,O2)
Izolyator Plant
16 Feb: Has completed a consignment of high-voltage bushings. Will soon
begin production of high-frequency insulators,(13)

Fizelektropribor Plant
13 Feb: Has developed a new type of high-precision electrical measuring
instrument for voltage, current and resistance. The instrument is designed for
use in laboratories, institutes and plants. Five more will be produced by
12 March.(12)
Electric Pump Plant
13 Feb: During the first quarter of 1950 the production of ?-22 emulsion
pumps for machine tools will be put on conveyer belts. Five separate lines
will be in operation. Four are under construction, one is already in service.(12)
Cable Industry Institute
10 Feb: Needs the following personnel for permanent work in Moscow: elec-
trical engineer for post of chief mechanical engineer; rubber and plastics en-
gineer for division head position; electrical engineer to head control and mea-
surements laboratory; high-tension electrical engineers; mechanical engineer.;
experienced in machine design; construction engineers experienced in estimates,
construction engineers experienced in planning; and electrical engineers experi-
enced in planning. (.L4)
ATE Plant No P
1.0 Feb: The Moa::ou- Automobile and Tractor Eleut.rical Equipment Plant No 2
will soon be several months ahead in the production of distributoc?s. it is push-
ing the preparation of the necessary equipment for undertaking manufacture of
this item. A special shop for reconditioning of worn-out cutting tools has beer,
set up. By 12 March, 120,000 rubles' worth of tools will have been recondi-
tioned.(IA)
Detal' Electric Repair Plant
9 Feb: Accepting orders for repair of electric motors below 100 kilowatts,
welding apparatus, and transformers.(15)
27 Feb: Accepting orders for repair of olectric motors. Will also do wind-
ing for transformers. Quick service on orders.(16)
Cable Plant (Moskabel')
26 Feb: Has begun using a finer type of natural silk for insulating wind-
ings for electrical machines and instruments. Ust'inskaya Silk-Twisting Factory
is making the new silk. New insulation makes possible an increase in the capa-
city of the electric machine and a decrease in its size at the some time. First
consignment of small-size windings will be ready by 12 March.(17)
Radiofront Artel
17 Jan: Testing of a new electric motor has just been completed at the
artel. Until recently the enterprise produced only 0.62-kilowatt motors. Now,
it is tooling up to put out 2.2- and 3.2-kilowatt motors. These are Intended
for metalcutting and woodworking machine tools, ventilating units, and other in-
dustrial purposes. Preparations are underway to manufacture blanking dies for
stamping rotors, stators, and other parts of dynamo iron.(18)
