The following plants have recently figured in Len?.ngrad electrical industry
developmentse
Elektrosila Plant
13 Jan: For several months the Leningrad Elektrosila Plant has been help-
ing the Elektrotekhpribor Artel with its production problems. Blueprints for
installations needed by the artel have been supplied and considerable material
assistance has been rendered to the die shop, where production hsa increased
sharply as a result,(1)

27 Jan: The plant is building a unique hydrogenerator.(2)
8 Febo The rotor for the hydrogenerator was built in 20 days instead of
the 40 days previously required for such a ,job. The plant is currently running
tests on new heavy-duty induction motors, a six-motor aggregate supplied by a
new-type DC generator, and other large-scale machinery 'for the metallurgical
and coal industries,(3)
22 Feb; Ahydrogen-cooled turbogenerator is under construction.(4) ,
10 Mar: The powerful turbogenerator which the plant was building in hon-
or of election day has been completed. Assembly took half the scheduled time.(5)
Mica Factories
25 Nov 49: While general production indexes for the Leningrad Mica Fac-
tories No 1 and 2 of the Soyuzslyudkombinat All-Union Mica Combine) Trust ap-
pear to be good, the ,plants have failed their consumers on a number of occa-
sions. For instance,"when the ,Svetlana Plant sieeded''e special type of mica
insulating material for a new vacuum tube it was d~velopix~; the Mica Factox^,~,

No 1 came up with eli sorts of excuses Por why it could not get the new material
into production. The management cf the mica factories plead poor and irregular
source of supply, The more basic trouble, however, lies in the backward manu-
facturing methods employed at the factories.(6)
26 Feb; The welding machine and apparatus shop recently produced a weld-
ing transformer which combines two units formerly produced separately. 'Phe im-
provement in design greatly simplifies the work of the welder and saves copper
and transformer iron. Another type of transformer produced by the shop has a
sperial ventilator for :Doling. Another copper-raving device is a special ma-
chine for welding copper. wire. The short Ends are no longer thrown off as waste,
but are rewelded into the wire.(7}
Elekt..roapparat Plant
19 Jan; Anew type of switch for rural electric stations was perfected
last year. The first series was produced in December. Preparations for mass
p^oduction of 35,000-volt oil switches are currently under way.(8)
