The Borets Plant is now tempering tools by a new super-cold process in
which the tool is subjected to a temperature of minus 85-100 degrees centi-
grade. The teeth of a Heller saw treated in this manner last four times as
long as previously. High-speed turret-lathe cutting tools likewise last much
longer. At present, 30 different types of tools are being tempered by super-
cold.
HIGH-FREQUENCY UNIT LOWERS COSTS -- Kommunist, No 12, 14 Jan 50
During 1949 the Yerevan Machine-Tool Building Plant imeni Dzerzhinskiy
raised the productivity of labor 10.5 percent. A high-frequency surface-
tempering unit has cut down expenditure of electricity, raised the quality
of tempered parts, and reduced their production cost.
NEW TYPE WOODWORKING MACHINE -- Warsaw Zwiazkowiec, No 8, 19 Feb 50
A new type woodworking machine has been designed in the USSR, by B.
Nechunaev, a cabinetmaker. This machine takes the place of ten special ma-
chincs which up to now were used for various woodworking jobs. The ma-
chine's output is almost twice that of the most modern US-made woodworking
machine.
BOASTS DOUBLED PRODUCTIVITY -- Trud, No 66, 17 Mar 50
The conversion from individual Stakhanovite work to Stakhanovite sec-
tions, shops, and enterprises is an important step in increasing production.
With the same equipment and the same number of workers at the Kalibr Plant,
production increased 2.6 times and labor productivity incressed 2.3 times
in comparison with 1940.

During the first qua--ter of 1950 the Tbilisi Machine-Tool Building Plant
NEW HIGF-PRODUCTION MILLING MACHIN1S --- Kommunist, No 64, 15 Mar 50
Engineers at the Gor'kiy Milling Machine Plant have developed and put
into production a group of high-production bracket and heavy milling ma-
chines. The cortrols have been mechanized and made automatic to the utmost,
permitting one opez,ator to service several machines at the same time. The
designers of these machines have been awarded the Stalin Prize.
The Moscow Automobile Plant imeni Stalin is installing two production
lines for making gear wheels for two-spindle high-duty tooth-milling machines
which the plant manufactes.
Centralized sharpening of hard alloy-cutting tools still has not been
organized at the Riga VHF, REZ, Stars, and Turbine Machinery Plants. Riga
enterprises are also backva_rd in seeing to the accurate grading and marking
of cutting tools.
BEARINGS PLANT FULFILLS PLEDGE -- Moskovskaya Pravda, No 18, 11 Mar 50
The Moscow Second Bearings Plant fulfilled its Election Day pledge
ahead of schedule. Several thousand bearings were manufactured above plan.
