"Sovromtractor" Plant in Brasov produced its 4,000th tractor on 15 April
1950. This plant produced its first tractor, model IAR-22, at the end of
1946. In September 1948, 1,000 tractors had been made and by 23 August 1949,
2,000 tractors. Production of the IAR-23 tractor, a greatly improved model
of the IAR-22, was started on 23 August 1949. On 21 December 1949, "Sovrom-
tractor" had produced 3,000 tractors and on 15 April 1950, 4,000 tractors.
At present, a new type tractor, the IAR-24-K (see0 28 Apr 1950)
is being tested.
The Five-Year Plan calls for the production of 6,000 tractors annually,
which means that there will be 25,000 tractors in Rumania in 1955.
/Viata Sindicala, No 793, 16 Apr 1950, carried the following headline:
"'Sovromtractor' Produces 4,000th IAR-23 Tractor." This should read "4,000th
tractor" since, according to the preceding store, the entire production of
the plant is only 4,000 tractors of all models. The Viata Sindicala arti'le
goes on to state that the workers at "Sovromtractor" have pledged to exceed
the April production plan by 48 IAR-23 tractors. It reports that two IAR-24-K
tractors are now ready for tests on the proving ground_7
MACHINE TOOLS TO BE READY BY 20 APRIL -- Romania Libera, No 1729, 11 Apr 50
The workers at the "Steagul Rosu" plant in Brasov have pledged to finish
two 130-millimeter miller-drills by 20 April (originally scheduled for 30 April)
and to exceed the plan for rollers by 5 percent, freight cars and products for
the petroleum industry by 25 percent, three-head drills by 25 percent, and
wheeled drill heads by 27 percent. By 1 May, the factory is to deliver, in ex-
cess of the plan, 15 drill units, 250 pistons for Canadian pumps, and 1,000
units of liners.
