NEW PLANT TO SELL SURPLUS OXYGEN -- T'usa Sinmun, 7 Feb 50
The Hwanghae Ironworks has opened a new oxygen plant to provide oxygen
for the ironworks. C'nstruction of the new plant was begun in 1949 and
completed 28 January 1950. The engineering work was directed by Engineer
Cho Yong-son.
Previously, the Hwanghae Ironworks had obtained oxygen from the P'yong-
yang Oxygen Factory and Sunch'on Chemical Plant, at a considerable cost for
transportation. The new oxygen plant eliminates the transportation cost,
enables the Hwanghae Ironworks to be self-sufficient, and permits it to sup-
ply other factories 20 percent of the oxygen it manufactures.

The Consumers' Cooperative Stores in P'yongyang have attained 105 percent
of their January commodity circulation quotas.
USSR RED CROSS HOSPITAL IN P'YONGYANG EXPANDS -- Nodong Sinmun, 12 Feb 50
The USSR Red Cross Hospital in Pyongyang has moved to the former P'?yong-
yang Medical College Hospital and expanded its facilities recently. This Red
Cross Hospital is equipped with modern Soviet medical facilities. It was
opened for Korean patients in February 1947. By December 1949, it had treated
235,000 patients and received: 4,700 ?be7 patients.

The hospital has ten consultation rooms for surgery; medicine; gyneco-
logy; obstetrics; dermatology; nose, ear, and throat; ophthalmology; pedia-
trics; neurology; and dentistry. There are 19 therapeutic rooms, an X-ray
room, a physical therapy room, and various experimental rooms. There are
five operating rooms. The hospital is equipped with 200 beds.
The National Degree Awarding Committee of the People's Republic will
conduct the fourth examination board on thesis for the doctorate degree on
14 Fe")ruary at the assembly hall of the Russo-Korean Cultural Association.
The bard will examine the dissertations submitted by Pak Si-hyong entitled
"The Process of Establishing Taxation System in the Yi Dynasty," and "A
Study of Land Taxes in the Yi Dynasty."
